I don’t know specifically. All I know, is that in 2020, I didn’t even believe that any laptop or files even existed at all. The whole thing reeked of just one more lie from the wingnutiest wing of the Republican Party. I figured Giuliani and his ilk fabricated it out of whole cloth.
Now, I believe that a laptop probably did exist. And that the media discredited it because it wasn’t helping the liberals. If it helped the liberals, the media would have fluffed, and puffed up any shred of evidence or misdeeds into, oh, 2500% to 4500%, like they did nonstop with the “illegal Russian collusion”.
*Do I think there was Russian collusion? No. Do I think the Trump campaign cared about legalities, or would have told the Russians no? No I don’t. So, while the Trump campaign was quite unethical and criminally prone, I don’t know of any actual, specific “collusion” that was proven. And this fact is an example of the media bias that so thoroughly disposes of any shred of credibility that the media thinks may still exist in journalism.

He really is in Babylon Bee’s league. With everything else he does. Not many could meet that challenge.

I think the more accurate narrative is that in the 2016 elections, the media had the Steele Dossier dropped into the election at the last minute, some of which turned out to be true and some of which turned out to be unverifiable speculation. The media received a lot of criticism for reporting on on the Steele Dossier. And they tightened up their reporting standards for late-dropping elections information so they wouldn't be caught unintentionally amplifying deliberate misinformation.RZehr wrote: ↑Mon Dec 12, 2022 2:58 pmI don’t know specifically. Consequently, during the closing days of the 2020 election when the Hunter Biden laptop story broke the media were understandably reluctant to pursue another rabbit trail or prematurely report on something that could be either wrong or deliberate disinformation. Remember that when this came out in October 2020, the sole source was Rudy Giuliani who was eyeballs deep in Trump's attempt to extort Ukraine to gin up a false investigation of Biden. So hardly an impartial source. Whatever subsequent verification of the story you think has happened since, remember that in October 2020 when this actually mattered the media had no way to verify any part of the story because Rudy Giuliani refused to allow anyone else to even see the files. That itself raised very reasonable suspicions.
You can't simultaneously criticize the media for uncritically reporting the Steele Dossier (what Trump calls the Russia Hoax) while simultaneously criticizing them for backing off on reporting on the Hunter Biden laptop story when none of the information could be validated because Rudy Giuliani refused to share it with any other media outlets. Both were late-breaking elections "bombshells" that the media had no way to validate either of them at that time.

The FBI, and members of the media knew the Steele Dossier to be fabricated before it was widely reported on. The Hunter Biden laptop has all since been verified. If you really see a parallel between these two, I believe you are blindfolded by partisanship.Ken wrote: ↑Mon Dec 12, 2022 3:28 pmI think the more accurate narrative is that in the 2016 elections the media had the Steele Dossier dropped into the election at the last minute, some of which turned out to be true and some of which turned out to be unverifiable speculation. The Steele Dossier was not fabricated. It merely contained some allegations that could not be verified. Some of the allegations have been proven true. Some have been unverified. But not one of the allegations contained in the Steele Dossier have actually been disproven. Even FOX News hsa admitted this. Essentially it is a series of intelligence data that states" Sources allege...." At the worst, Steele has been criticized for overstating some of the claims that his sources alleged.
Likewise the Hunter Biden files have not all since been verified. Media sources that have subsequently analyzed the files long after the 2020 election have concluded that many of the emails and files appear authentic. But they are unable to verify that all of the contents are legitimately Hunter Biden's and haven't been altered in any way. In fact, there have been various copies of these files circulating around in which various edits had been made after the date in which they were apparently obtained.
But none of that is actually relevant to the question at hand. "The relevant question is whether the press could verify both sources of information when both stories dropped in the days leading up to the 2016 and 2020 elections. In both cases they could not.
What standard do you want to hold the press to when it comes to reporting late-breaking elections information? What level of verification should they apply before reporting scandalous information? It is a simple question.

I listened to his Babylon Bee interview and he shares some of that there.
He comes across as thoroughly prepared to respond to the major blowback thrown at him. With grounded coolheadedness that is found in confidence. None of this suggests any of this was by surprise. He really seems to know this situation AND the filthy filthy players inside-out. It should not be underestimated, his life could be at risk. His demeanor is clever boyish charm. In fact, he’s stepping on big toes.
If it doesn’t work out, he needs to apply for work at the Babylon Bee.
Wait! - Twitter banned the Bee.
Well. It appears Musk did not land a moment too soon.
