But millions of years ago, this region was undergoing a period of intense climate change that sent temperatures up, Willerslev said. Sediment likely built up for tens of thousands of years at the site before the climate cooled and cemented the finds into permafrost.

Physical evidence, not theories pushed by political agendas. This sample from the northern tip of Greenland dates to 2 million years ago.

Yes, the earth was warmer 2 million years ago during the Pliocene. Sea levels were also 100 to 150 ft higher and Florida was almost entirely underwater and a series of islands. As was the Chesapeake and Gulf Coast and coastal regions across the entire globe.

Re: Global Warning/Climate Change
Know why Greenland was named that? When the Vikings found it in the early 1000's it had many areas of green land. That means it was melted and was not all snow and ice. They lived there for a while until it got cold again and the green disappeared. This was way before industrialization. There have been many periods of warm and cold. We are still easily within the normal band of fluctuation.MaxPC wrote: ↑Mon Dec 12, 2022 8:48 am Physical evidence, not theories pushed by political agendas. Ken, I think you've successfully shot yourself in the foot. Why do you liberals always focus on the trendy lunacy that is CO2 driven global warming, instead of focusing on things that are real, and that something can be done about?Ken wrote: ↑Mon Dec 12, 2022 10:22 amSo you are not a young earth creationist?MaxPC wrote: ↑Mon Dec 12, 2022 8:48 am Physical evidence, not theories pushed by political agendas. For instance, there is a real thermodynamic problem with exponential growth in energy consumption.

I'm not sure what you are talking about with respect to the relationship between CO2 and temperature. We have ice core data tracking both that goes back 420,000 years. This is what they look like. What do you think? Is there a correlation or not? Source: https://www.researchgate.net/figure/Vos ... _259791199

In fact, the relationship between atmospheric CO2 and climate is a completely uncontroversial and well documented scientific relationship that goes back to Svante Arrhenius who described the relationship in detail about 120 years ago.
I'm not sure what that link you provided is supposed to prove. It's mostly an unreadable bunch of gibberish.

"The early Norse settlers named the island as Greenland. In the Icelandic sagas, the Norwegian-born Icelander Erik the Red was exiled from Iceland for manslaughter. Along with his extended family and his thralls (i.e. slaves or serfs), he set out in ships to explore an icy land known to lie to the northwest. After finding a habitable area and settling there, he named it Grœnland (translated as "Greenland"), supposedly in the hope that the pleasant name would attract settlers. The Saga of Erik the Red states: "In the summer, Erik left to settle in the country he had found, which he called Greenland, as he said people would be attracted there if it had a favorable name.""

Since they found settlements that were there for several hundred years, I think it was hospitable. All they had to do was sail further west to hit the mainland America, which they know of and called Vinland if they needed a better place to live.Ken wrote: ↑Mon Dec 12, 2022 5:41 pm After finding a habitable area and settling there, he named it Grœnland (translated as "Greenland"), supposedly in the hope that the pleasant name would attract settlers. There are settlements all along the Arctic Ocean from Alaska to Siberia. And they have been there for thousands of years. But none of them are green or look like Ireland.Robert wrote: ↑Mon Dec 12, 2022 5:58 pmSince they found settlements that were there for several hundred years, I think it was hospitable. North America was much more populated and it is possible that the Vikings just didn't have the numbers and technology to actually conquer and settle areas already populated by Native American tribes. Firearms didn't come until centuries later with the Spanish and English conquests. The Vikings would have been fighting the far more numerous Native Americans with bladed weapons and bows and arrows that are not that different from what the Native American tribes already had. Or possibly they were just assimilated and absorbed into Native tribes and vanished to history.
According to Jarred Diamond, the Greenland Vikings mostly failed because they tried to do European-style agriculture and raise cattle rather than adapting to the climate. Greenland was successfully inhabited by the Inuit for over 3500 years before the Vikings arrived and has been inhabited by them consistently since they left.
