And with 90% of the staff gone, it working and about to turn a profit within a month, the new stockholders will be laughing all the way to the bank.

With a large percentage of their advertisers fleeing, how are they going to turn a profit? Must less a large enough one to justify the $44 BILLION purchase price?

$8 x a few hundred thousand might make up for some of that, though I have no idea how much.

You continue to be very confused about how the deal went down.

About every 5-7 posts is an ad. And there are some really prominent brands here. Now, maybe some of these are contracts are running out and the advertisers are leaving. I'm just saying that based on what Twitter looks like right now, ads are as thick and fast as ever.

And, there's this

I wonder if Elon and Jordan Peterson are having fun misspelling each other's names, or if it's just old guys who don't know how to type

I actually have my doubts about whether Elon is actually going to go through with his purchase of Twitter. I've seen some good arguments suggesting he is likely to have second thoughts and back out.
And of course I was completely right.

He did have second thoughts and try to back out. Then of course Twitter sued him and forced the deal to go through and the court was poised to enforce the purchase agreement and not let him off the hook. The original Twitter shareholders are probably laughing all the way to the bank right now.

Elon Musk is threatening to pull out of his $44 billion acquisition of Twitter if the company does not provide more information on how it calculates the number of fake accounts.

In a letter delivered to Twitter on Monday and filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Mr. Musk’s lawyers at the law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom argued that Twitter was “actively resisting and thwarting” Mr. Musk’s rights under the terms of his deal to acquire the social media company. His lawyers accused Twitter of a “clear material breach” of its obligations and said that Mr. Musk had the right to break off the agreement as a result.

The letter said Mr. Musk had “repeatedly” requested more information about how Twitter measured spam and fake accounts on its platform and that he had “made it clear that he does not believe the company’s lax testing methodologies are adequate so he must conduct his own analysis.”

The letter featured the most direct words yet about Mr. Musk potentially scrapping the deal, something he has, so far, obliquely suggested he might do through tweets and other off-the-cuff statements. The letter also presents a new legal argument for pulling out of the deal, opening a new front in the increasingly bitter back and forth.
In my world, “called it” means “i’m right,” in a prideful way. it’s fun.
in this case, a bit preemptive.

the entire mainstream press thrives on preemptive “reporting”/smearing. you have a lot of company. enjoy.

i’m not sure, but, it seems to me, lots of folks believe they have “a personal relationship with” the NYT, etc.,
they enjoy great confidence in simply reciting, often verbatim, what they read .. i urge caution.

the NYT is no substitute for, let’s say, the gospel Truth. :)
or even a court of human law.
