Reminds me of a confusing listing I saw on a menu in Brazil when we first moved there. Bife ao Cavalo. (Pronounced more or less like beefee ao kavalu.) Bife means steak. Cavalo means horse. so I asked: Is it really horse steak?
Well, you've probably all hear of "apple pie a la mode", which means something like 'apple pie with ice cream'. So the 'ao' in there is the masculine form of the same word as 'a' in the apple pie example. So, it's something to do with a horse, but what? Turns out it is a steak with a fried egg on top.
But to the topic, I THINK it is a ground beef patty fried up in egg, but I could be wrong, because I'm not a cook.
Or am I thinking of something else entirely? I DID grow up in the South, sort of, Oklahoma anyway, but my mom didn't "introduce" the meals with some fancy name. She just put it on the table, and we ate it. (Except okra. I hated the stuff - still do. I tried to arrange a compromise, where I would plant it, hoe around it, pick it, but PLEASE don't make me eat it. That didn't pass muster, except after I nearly threw up every time I was forced to eat it, my parents pretended not to notice when I didn't take more that just a little bit - little enough that I could envelop it in some other food, like mashed potatoes, so I didn't get the slimy mess reaction.) Now that I've grossed everyone out - if you'all're still with me, we ate mostly PlautDietsch food, and Mexican, until the American foods started to find their way into the garden, and then onto the dinner table. So I don't really know that much about Southern food, even though I grew up there.

That's blast from the past. Dave Thomas died in 2002. In my opinion, Wendy's is one of the better fast food joints.

Chicken & waffles is another dish that confuses me. How did we come to the conclusion that a piece of chicken should be served on top of a breakfast item? It sounds good, but how did it originate?

Never heard of such a thing. So I wonder who the "we" is..... (But then 'we' spread honey over our cracklins.)steve-in-kville wrote: ↑Wed Nov 16, 2022 8:34 am Chicken & waffles is another dish that confuses me.
