Chicken fried steak?
Vote and discuss. Never had this and it confuses me. I'm told it's a southern states dish.

Whenever I have had it, it was cubed steak that was battered and fried. It is served up with white gravy.

The food itself contains only cow, although there might be some egg in the batter.
But the idea originated with an advertising campaign by the chickens.

A local restaurant has great chicken fried steak. It’s a great breakfast choice.

My maternal grandparents, who were from Bavaria, would call Chicken Fried Steak/ Country Fried Steak Schnitzel, which is really all that it is. A few years back I read some article that seemed to argue that my grandparents were correct, that the dish became popular originally in Texas from German immigrants.

Apparently, the diner I frequent has it on the menu. Is this deep fried or pan fried typically?
