They seem to be happy, since they only have to read about politics when someone drags it into the wrong thread. And you're getting close to the line by mentioning the White House, Congress, a congressperson, Trump/POTUS, and elections on the last two pages of this thread, which is not in Politics. It is really not necessary for politics to enter into every conversation.

What is your obsession with men getting pregnant? I have never even heard that before. Do you have some psychological obsession with getting pregnant?Josh wrote: ↑Sun Nov 06, 2022 12:29 pmThere’s a big gap from what you just said and banning people for saying “men can’t get pregnant”.Ken wrote: ↑Sun Nov 06, 2022 12:24 pmOther forums have tried that. It takes about a nanosecond for an unmoderated forum to be filled with the purveyors of porn, financial and health-related scams like erectile dysfunction meds, and every violent, racist, and extremist ideology that gets squeezed out of civilized conversation.RZehr wrote: ↑Sat Nov 05, 2022 11:56 pm I wonder if it would work to have, on one Twitter, a main living room/dining room where respectable conversation and advertising takes place; and more of a free speech backyard where other people could gather around the dumpster fire and cesspool. Maybe have a paywall or 21 year old minimum to enter that backyard beer garden.

Deeds are more important than words. Elon claims he isn't changing content moderation but fires the entire content moderation staff at twitter. And then further demonstrates that there is no adult in charge by tweeting out homophobic falsehoods about the Pelosi attack.
It seems pretty obvious that it isn't "activists" who are diminishing twitter. It is Musk himself.
It will be interesting to see how his so-called free speech ideals stack up when it threatens his other core businesses like Tesla. And it will.

Sometimes I feel like the last person on the planet who thinks free speech means even people who disagree with you are allowed to speak. The fact that Mr. Musk thinks free speech is threatened because the financial model underpinning his investments is failing makes me think he doesn't understand free speech either. He is free to fund Twitter and say what ever he wants.

“Elon Musk tweet about ‘tiny possibility’ there’s more to Paul Pelosi story - -
i have no respect for math or algorithms or oddly-functioning “advanced” human reasoning that balks at perfectly reasonable statements like these.
i wish Elon Musk well.
he’s doing a good job of exposing how bad the problems are. some rough seas are to be expected.
plenty of shame to go around.
The vitriol his tweet received may be a classic example of how bad mob mentality can be.
It should be avoided, proven again+again throughout history. Now comes the 21st Century tech example. No better than any before.

Yes, of course.barnhart wrote: ↑Sun Nov 06, 2022 3:32 pm Sometimes I feel like the last person on the planet who thinks free speech means even people who disagree with you are allowed to speak. I also tend to think that with every right comes responsibilities. With the freedom of speech comes the responsibility not to use speech to perpetrate slander and libel in the form of lies. Or to cause harm by inciting violence, panic, etc.
With the freedom of religion comes the responsibility not to use religion to cheat and exploit others.
With the freedom of assembly comes the responsibility not to incite violent mobs.
With the freedom to bear arms comes the responsibility to do so in a responsible manner., not let them fall into the hands of children, violent criminals, etc.
With the freedom to own and control your own property comes the responsibility not to harm your neighbors or the environment.
etc. etc.
Does that mean we always must have laws to enforce those responsibilities? No, not necessarily. But the responsibilities remain none-the-less.

so, will you retract your own ugly response(s) to Musk’s clever, not profane, not violent tweet?

Re: Elon Musk. Twitter. Babylon Bee.
Musk tweeted lies to his 105 million followers. Which he later retracted but never apologized for.
I simply pointed out that "This story says a LOT more about Musk than it does Pelosi. It sounds more like Elon Musk is far too irresponsible to be owning Twitter."
But please, do tell us what you think is actually clever and useful about re-tweeting lies from a notorious troll site that is famous only for publishing lies and false information.
