This probably seems like the wisest of options.
Instead of pontificating about things we could never actually know; perhaps the wisest course might be to sit tight and allow the truth to come to the light as it surely will. It seems easy to blame Russia on this one and all the bien pensants want us to take as axiomatic that this was a Russian sabotage.

I think though that after years of seeing the bien pensants’ hot takes being proven wrong or even lies,
RZehr’s wait-and-see approach seems the most prudent
i don’t understand HK to mean “no discussion.”
however, digging in with certainty based on oft-proven biased reporting, seems both baseless and unwise.

Newsflash. That is what reporters do. They interview people.

In this case that is the only way to get news from that region because Russia doesn’t allow independent reporting.
Problem is while those circumstances make the story plausible it also makes making up stories plausible. So if you have nothing better than news reporters reporting words of people who can't be named you're not gonna win this.
If Russia had the slightest interest in running this referendum as a free, fair, and open election they could have invited in foreign press and independent observers like any other free, fair, and open election.
Should the U.S. invite the press from Russia, Iran, and North Korea to observe our elections and make sure they are fair?

There are thousands of reporters and press offices from around the entire world that have bureaus in the US and report on US elections. Including independent Russian ones. I’m not aware that Iran and North Korea have an independent press.

By “independent”, you mean “repeats Western propaganda”?

Don't pretend you don't understand the difference between independent media and whatever state-owned and operated media organs exist in a country like North Korea.

Really? You mean you can tell the difference between state owned media and the main stream media? I can't.

You can't? How about an example. Do you have an example of a state-owned media organ that is indistinguishable from independent media?

Which one was the state-owned one?
