Plane crash?

Things that are not part of politics happening presently and how we approach or address it as Anabaptists.

But I don't think anyone ever becomes a pilot because they want to get somewhere slow...
That’s a good point!

i appreciate your views, no matter topic.
patience, self-restraint, waiting, are bugaboos for most of us. i recall how my father insisted on patience, i wouldn’t say he over-did it, but, frequently enough to get the unwelcome message across. wait.

i continue to struggle with it. not always, but “frequently enough” to appreciate God’s time. thanks, Dad.

in early August i flew commercial SEA-ORD-GRR, with hours of weather related flight delays. i didn’t SEE bad weather!
but we had to respect delays due to weather reports ahead. summer rain. how innocent. ugh. it was ok. but. ugh.

i can imagine the temptation to go ahead. esp if you’ve gone ahead before without incident.
pilot or not, we make judgment calls all the time. that flight of stairs. walking on ice. picking up a heavy awkward package. tripping over the family dog. usually without incident.

it’s really hard to wait.

OK, sorry, I guess I took you wrong. Rod Martin was one of the owners of the plane.
How many people are typically partners in the ownership of a plane like this? Does anyone do the same thing with boats?

i have no idea about boats, but i think shared ownership of private jets is common. and interestng. example:
.. “Fractional Private Jet Ownership”
https://elitetraveler.com/luxury-transp ... -ownership

i have no idea how this might differ with Anabaptists. but i imagine the concept appeals.

I think it varies. Sometimes 3-5 but there are a number of flying clubs that have larger memberships and then sometimes they might own several different planes of varying sizes. I don't know anyone that does it with boats but I don't suppose there's any reason you couldn't.

As an aside, I'm not sure that general aviation mixes too well with plain culture, which also seems to have trouble with basic safety on ATVs, dirtbikes, vehicles, cars, trucks, and so forth. I also question just why someone needs to have a plane which is both expensive to own and operate; it seems that is going very far beyond "food, shelter, and clothing".

Plainer groups of people have eschewed even commercial air travel and try to travel long distances by bus or train instead (or 15-passenger van). Less-plain groups that do drive cars usually have discouraged flying lessons, ownership of planes, and so on, although they allow travel by commercial airline. But overall, this seems a bad mix.

One of the rather more tiresome arguments why it is essential for Christians to engage in aviation is that it is required to spread the gospel. I then have to ask how exactly the gospel got spread for the 1,870 years since Jesus' resurrection.

It is hard to justify the cost of flying a small plane based on any rational math. Then again I can also think of a number of other activities that are considered perfectly acceptable for Mennonites to engage in that don't make much better financial sense.

Can I just put this out there? Should I ever do anything accidentally that may cause my death could you for the sake of my family not try and tear the whole situation apart with a whole bunch of assumptions on a public forum. Talk about it in private all you want if you feel the need.
I suspect I am a bit sensitive about this subject since one of my nephews just lost a son to drowning a few weeks back and the mean things people say on social media often with little or no direct knowledge is just disgusting.

I'm gonna be the first to apologize for this. I've been the victim of such things and I should know better. For this I am sorry.

That said, some of us naturally have an analytical minds, mostly through previous experiences, and tend to look for "the story behind the story."

But sometimes there just is no story. A car crash or truck accident happens. The end.

In retrospect we’d like to see fewer happen and can learn from them, but… all of us keep driving, which is actually quite dangerous.
