But how many more cars did you pass on that trip than airplanes? It is true that flying commercial is safer than driving. But if you start looking at general aviation like this accident, the numbers look much different. While there are different ways of looking at this, most people after looking at statistics will agree that general aviation is more dangerous than driving.

Re: Plane crash?
Rod did not have an instrument rating, and he most certainly was not instrument flying proficient. Quite a high percentage of instrument rated pilots are not instrument proficient. Most instrument pilots in that airplane would not choose to fly the flight path he did. I'm not quite clear why whether he had an instrument rating or not seems to be so important. I don't think we will ever be able to proof whether he was IMC or not. But the chain of events that lead to this accident certainly started before he was in IMC.ken_sylvania wrote: ↑Tue Aug 30, 2022 10:42 am I dare you to!
Not sure if I can put it into words, but contributing factors include the tone of Katz's analysis (for instance, maybe Rod didn't have instrument skills, maybe he did - just because he didn't have the rating doesn't automatically mean no skill, I think he relies too heavily on the ADS-B data from Flightaware without knowing exactly what instruments were on the plane and how the data was being collected for ADS-B. There's a reason it takes NTSB longer than just a couple weeks to determine probable cause, and it's not because they're lazy.) combined with that little phrase toward the end of the article saying they tried calling Rod's widow and she didn't return their message. I know that's part of the news business and all, but I still think it's rude to call bereaved family like that just to pry for information.

Given the plain community in our area, and their rampant use of social media, this entire situation was absolute radio silence. Like someone knew something... and then there was a cover story going around over it, that of which was already touched on here on MN.Josh wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 11:25 amWhat do you mean by a "bit off"?steve-in-kville wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 11:23 am We do know owned that plane, right? I am guessing that when a tragedy is bad enough and affects people close enough to them, people finally just stop talking and speculating.steve-in-kville wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 11:34 am Given the plain community in our area, and their rampant use of social media, this entire situation was absolute radio silence. Could be right and I'm way off. But then, I also wonder if the USA really landed on the moon when we say we did, the mob shot Kennedy and so forthJosh wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 11:36 amI am guessing that when a tragedy is bad enough and affects people close enough to them, people finally just stop talking and speculating.steve-in-kville wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 11:34 am Given the plain community in our area, and their rampant use of social media, this entire situation was absolute radio silence. Re: Plane crash?
I heard plenty about it but for some of the reasons I mentioned earlier didn't see any need to be gossiping about it extensively. I think it's painful enough for the families and friends without everyone else using it to tickle their ears.steve-in-kville wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 11:34 amGiven the plain community in our area, and their rampant use of social media, this entire situation was absolute radio silence. My understanding is that Galen Martin does not own Skyhawk Associates. His office is the address of record for the LLC but he's not one of the members.Grace wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 11:56 amOwned by Skyhawk Associates of Myerstown, Pennsylvania.steve-in-kville wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 11:23 am We do know owned that plane, right?
