So I guess Paul would support the Nuremberg defense. I disagree with Paul on this.Ernie wrote: ↑Mon Aug 22, 2022 6:42 am Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. Be subject for the Lord's sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good. For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people.

Likely he could source his citric acid, or vitamin c if you choose, from any domestic source he chose. The “from China “ stuff is just a smokescreen to make it sound scary..
My guess is that these folk would like to go back to the unregulated era prior to the pure food and drug act. That era is well documented in uptown Sinclair’s “The Jungle.”

It's not a question of size. The size of the operation is no guarantee against selling tainted meat. Bacteria are microscopic. They don't care if you have a large operation or small one. The question is whether he is conducting commerce and running a meat-selling business. Presumably he isn't giving meat away for free.
And the use of preservatives like citric acid is also to protect the consumers who may not be able to instantly refrigerate the meat the moment they buy it. Citric acid is a safe disinfectant to sterilize meat contaminated with e-coli, salmonella, or other harmful bacteria and it provides a protective layer on the surface of the meat to prevent spoilage and deter things like flies. So it is what you want if you have a long drive (or buggy ride) home. It is a perfectly safe natural ingredient present in many foods and the alternatives like nitrates and nitrites are worse. And you can wash it off prior to cooking. Even if the meat is perfectly sterile when you take receipt of it, having it treated with a preservative like citric acid protects you from having your meat spoil in the back of your car on a hot day or if you don't have the best refrigerator (or no refrigerator) at home.
The better question is why does he want to play Russian roulette with his customer's lives and risk selling them tainted meat? I would expect that any good and conscientious businessman would seek to provide the safest and most sanitary food products.

A “sovereign citizen “ defense is about the worst thing you can do. Unfortunately I think this may be spreading in some corners of our community. It is a sure ticket to jail.steve-in-kville wrote: ↑Mon Aug 22, 2022 6:11 am This has been in and out of the news for a few years now. Well, technically speaking it isn't a sure ticket to anything. Anyone can "sovereign citizen" all they want.Judas Maccabeus wrote: ↑Mon Aug 22, 2022 11:13 pmA “sovereign citizen “ defense is about the worst thing you can do. What is a sure ticket to jail is felony tax evasion, which is usually what these sovereign citizen types get wrapped up in. And claiming to be a "sovereign citizen" is no defense against tax evasion or any other felony. Most courts will not even let you present that as a defense. They don't even want to hear it.

Interesting. It should be posted here in a few days. In the video I referenced it was at 30:23, just after a segment on crime in Miami.

Is it though?
Is it more accurate to say they are “targeting the Amish”, or is it more accurate to say they are “targeting an out of compliance meat processor”?

Unless I misread the direction of this thread, I do not understand why so many are waiting in line to defend this guy. He's made so many false promises to a judge. He has no intentions of following the law.
I work in the food industry and I know what its like to be inspected, have licenses and permits and so on. The FDA and/or the state could show up at my place of employment at any time. So could our insurance company, L&I or any number of agencies I'm not thinking of... they could ask to check inventory or see records. And yes, this has happened and we got dinged on some really stupid stuff just because the person doing the surprise inspection was having a bad hair day.
If all the rest of us in the food industry have to follow the rules, so should he, regardless of whether he believes the government has authority over him or not. He can try all the loop holes and work-arounds that whatever his hotshot accountant (that may fancy himself a lawyer) can come up with. Bottom line: get in compliance or get out.
Sorry, but not sorry
