This story does seem a tad apocryphal. I can’t imagine very many Baptist pastors ever saying such a thing nowadays.

No, not many. But some within a certain circle, who think they can set rules for Heaven, could well speak such cruelty.

I have heard Mennonite ministers say similar things. They were my own cousins.
