2. Is the same person commenting on this thread who once said that if MennoNet turns into a survivor's site, they are done with it? Because, if you are, you have ZERO credibility to comment on this subject at all.

Other than that, you all go on and have yourselves a lovely Menno knock down and drag out session. :D
I believe it was Robert who said this is not a survivor’s forum, and there are very valid reasons for that. If someone wants to make a separate survivor’s site they are welcome to do so.

A public Internet forum with anonymous participation is not an appropriate survivor’s forum.
How about a forum where everyone is treated with respect? Is that too far of a stretch?

Can't find a quote like that from Robert. I hope this forum is accepting of survivors/overcomers/victims. It would seem strange to me to exclude them. Obviously this isn't exclusively FOR them.

That's because Robert wasn't the one who said it, thankfully.

Strongly disagree. Trust must be earned, but respect should be given until such a time when it is no longer shown to be warranted.

Not in a public forum. In a public forum it should be the starting ground rules.

Can I be rude to you until you “earn” my respect? Or do you deserve it regardless?

This thread seemed to stay pretty much on topic, or at least always came back to the main subject.

When you lose respect by making comments that are uninformed and institution centric with little to no regard for the suffering of others, I'm sorry but you have to earn it back. You may disagree with that, and that is just fine.

In the military it was a common expression that you didn't have to respect the person but you did have to respect the rank.
In Christianity, God is no respecter of persons in such that this person is better then that person and we are all equal in the sight of God.

I would hold that respect is part of human decency and while we may find a lack of respect within us, God still sees value were we see none. In my experience I have come across many differing idea's which cause conflict. Do we want to be another glorified christian "reddit" because lack of respect will bring us there and while we can deeply disagree, that still is a human made in the image of God who you are disrespecting.
