I don’t know that I’d have any advice. I would share what aspects I’ve struggled with related to my depression and anxiety.
A driving factor in my mental health issues was the belief that my value was based on my performance.
I might share the one book that helped break that lie in my heart. “The Life of the Beloved” by Henri Nouwen.
Here’s a message he shared based on that book.
✝️ Thank you for sharing.
i’m trying to figure out how to share .. it’s in 3 twenty minute parts.
i listened to all 3 at once, because i couldn’t miss the next part! i plan to listen again, part by part.

A new topic that resonates:

I belive in God the Father.
I believe the Son is of the Father, the Father in the Son, and the Son in the Father.
I believe the Holy Spirit is of Christ, the Christ in the Spirit, the Spirit in Christ and in us as the body of Christ.

The head, Christ, knows what this means. I do not. Everything men opine on the subject is the imagination of men.

We are the body. The body feels the oneness, it does not understand it. Understanding is in the Head, in Christ.

Bow my head
I'm findin' more and more truth

They tell me that there's more to life
Than just what I can see, I believe"

steve:
.. I do not have the ability to go anywhere near this. ..
In truth, no one knows, not even those deemed or self-appointed experts. So, advising on how to accomodate the “problem presented,” whether a perceived distortion of mind/body, or one who has fornicated or murdered, Jesus implores all to choose Him, to walk away from .. the earthly.

Presently, the world definitely wants Christians to believe they are unable - which Christians readily accept! - but, what happens??
The lonely+broken, the suffering, turn right to social media and land in (now POWERFUL) hands of those like this:

TY SMITH / Breaking News! Rachel Levine states gender affirming " It's medically necessary, it's life saving" / 14min

A quoted government statement:**
human reasoning is ‘way too finite.
Resilience and Happiness After Spinal Cord Injury: A Qualitative Study
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4896325/
Results:
Analyses of these responses identified both specific resources and cognitive perspectives that are associated with perceived happiness. Responses fell within 8 general categories:
resilience, general outlook on life, social support and social relationships, religion or faith in a higher power, mood, physical health and functioning (including pain), social comparisons, and resources. Nuanced themes within these categories were identified and were generally concordant with self-reported level of happiness.

Conclusion:
A majority of respondents with SCI identified themselves as happy and explained their adjustment and resilience as related to personality, good social support, and a spiritual connection. In contrast, pain and physical challenges appeared to be associated with limited ability to bounce back.

We can “fix” nothing. We are tasked with the responsibility, and privilege, of sharing Truth.
Mistakes are made. There are dreadful failures.

But, look at the alternative! - Now funded+promoted with tax dollars.
We didn’t know it could get “so bad.” Jesus knew.

So. Put a little confidence in faith.
Don’t underestimate what goodness the Holy Spirit might do with your small words+actions. He is unlimited.
It’s evil that wants to undermine your faith.

**regarding the quoted gov statement:
this is nothing new. physicians have recognized the spiritual aspect of their patients - for decades, maybe longer.

however! -
i fully expect these statements will soon be edited to remove any such references to the importance of faith - to match present ideologies that reject anything perceived to exist outside their narrow agenda. facts, science, no matter. it’s all about the wants+feels. by force of the sword.

Many have freely voted for this mess. It’s not as tho an oppressor stepped in to force it.

Personally, i believe we are now experiencing cults that have wormed their way into high gov, both for legal protection+promotion, and access to the Public Treasury. i remember Jim Jones and others. What-if he’d been effective in politics?? He now looks like small potatoes in comparison. If he could have, he would have.

Jesus knew how bad it could get.

Sudsy wrote: ↑Thu Jun 30, 2022 10:21 am Many grow up in Christian environments and do not experience the power of God working in their lives to overcome things because they have not believed in Christ and have the Holy Spirit living in them.
1 Thess:
19 Do not quench the Spirit.(AH) 20 Do not treat prophecies(AI) with contempt 21 but test them all;(AJ) hold on to what is good,(AK) 22 reject every kind of evil.
I think the vast majority of churches have quenched the spirit. I know that was a problem with the church I was raised in. Even the "Charismatic" churches have quenched the spirit (and it was on this account that I quit pursuing Quakerism- which is when I "met" Bill Rushby on the Quaker Theology mailing list):
1 Cor: 34 Women[f] should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak,(AZ) but must be in submission,(BA) as the law(BB) says. 35 If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.[g]

36 Or did the word of God(BC) originate with you? Or are you the only people it has reached? 37 If anyone thinks they are a prophet(BD) or otherwise gifted by the Spirit,(BE) let them acknowledge that what I am writing to you is the Lord’s command.(BF) 38 But if anyone ignores this, they will themselves be ignored.[h]
Or, as Youngs literal translation- and most others put it:
36 From you did the word of God come forth? or to you alone did it come?
37 if any one doth think to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge the things that I write to you -- that of the Lord they are commands;
38 and if any one is ignorant -- let him be ignorant;
I don't know how churches who have women ministers and decons and bishops "interpret" this passage, if they try to interpret them at all, but if they are paying attention, it would seem to me that they would have to take this to mean that "ignorance is bliss" and it's OK to carry on in ignorance. This is just my thoughts on how they could rationalize it. I've never had any who believe in it actually come up with a reply that doesn't rely on reducing the value of scripture to just "some guys opinion". But it is still evidence that the spirit has been quenched.

The "gender dysphoric" have demons. IMO, all "mental illness" can be ascribed to demons. Not all demons can be expelled, particularly in an environment where the spirit is quenched. Or when there is disbelief.
Matthew 13:
57 and they were stumbled at him. And Jesus said to them, `A prophet is not without honor except in his own country, and in his own house:'
58 and he did not there many mighty works, because of their unbelief.
Even Jesus had to deal with this.

Colossians 2

8 Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. 9 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; 10 and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.

Yes. I should have quoted Ernie to make that clear.

I think the Christians answer to spiritual issues should be found in Christ, not in the wisdom of the world. I have issues with Psychology and Psychiatry in that so many of their answers to problems, and even many of their definitions of problems are antithetical to Christian values.

I'm not dismissing the usefulness of "science", I'm saying that Psychiatry and Psychology aren't as much science as they are pure philosophy. The most useful take on them is found here: https://www.szasz.com.

There is so much unknown in Psychiatry/Psychology.
Plus, your link is from circa 2012, unfortunately, a lot of experimenting and denying has ensued since then, professionals are constrained by questionable laws/policies deemed politically correct, actual science is in a back seat.

However, grounded in faith, pursuit of professional help, body+mind, can be positive. In all matters, God at center.

I suggest you read "The Manufacture of Madness- a comparative study of the Inquistion and the mental health movement"- by T. J. Szasz. I could be eye-opening for you.

I must, respectfully, disagree. I would hazard a guess that the demon Jesus drove out of this person was a "psychosomatic" problem (not because Jesus couldn't handle a physical problem, but because of how he resolved it):
Mark 9:25
When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.
Jesus didn't usually heal physical ailments by demanding an unclean spirit come out of the person he was healing.

That said, talking to ANYONE can HELP with people's problems, but to CURE them requires Christ. At least the "mental" problems. Cure is rare as hen's teeth in Psychiatry. Often the drugs used in "Treatment" can be more destructive to the body of the person being "treated" than heroin or cocaine or alcohol.

And, in an article in Psychology Today, also long ago, the correlation between a patient getting better and whether his therapist liked him or not was the #1 indicator in whether the patient would get better. Of course, the patients who were liked by their therapists were the group that got better.
