I suppose you are fully aware that have you have mischaracterized what was said about some rapes in other thread? And simply don't care?
I don’t think I’m mischaracterizing what was being said. I’m aware that there were some qualifications made, but my sense is that people were saying that women were at least “somewhat” responsible for getting rape. I think your “Detroit car theft” analogy does get into the territory of victim blaming, regardless of your qualifers.
So any discussion about safety precautions is victim blaming? Seriously?

And then there’s this doozy:
Women who don’t want to get raped should avoid being around rapists. Simple as that.
How would you characterize this comment?
I had forgot about that one. I make a conscious effort not to dwell on most of his posts. That being said I wouldn't call his bombs "discussion."

I have no control over rapists. What am I supposed to do, be a vigilante that goes and shoots them?
Women need to avoid being around rapists. The rest of us need to help identify who rapists are, and help ensure they do not have access to more victims. That is what I do.
Given recent news I suppose the first step for a woman taking your advice would be to stay out of Catholic and Southern Baptist churches. And apparently some conservative Anabaptist ones too.

That is a pretty wide and unfair brush. You could have added school teachers, but for some reason you left them out.

The incidence of sex abuse has been a lot higher in Catholic churches and apparently SBC churches according to their recent report. Plus public schools do FBI background checks and root out rapists when they find them. The Catholics and Baptists covered it up and recycled them to new locations where they preyed on new crops of victims.
Josh is the one who put the blame on women for going anywhere where rapists and sex abusers might exist. I'm just following his logic to the logical conclusion to show how absurd it is. It would mean going nowhere in public and for some, even home is unsafe.

I feel you are mischaracterizing his words.
These are strawman arguments and that is a very dangerous thing to do while I am around. You may have to ask someone that was around in MennoDiscuss why that is so. I have kept that monster at bay, but it could raise its head at any time.

Ken,
Are you arguing that women can somehow be around (and spend time alone with) rapists? Do you think bad things will not end up happening?
And yes, a church or school or other institution that covers up and coddles rapists is a dangerous place for women. And men. And boys.

Ken, you and the truth need to repair your relationship, The context of what Josh said was not "victim blaming", and just carving out that one sentence can only be intended to mischaracterize what Josh said. You yourself said lying was a serious sin, so I suggest you stop.

It is obvious that one should avoid associating with such men. And also obviously such things are illegal and the law has punishments for them but the police and courts also aren’t very effective.

(Some would say they should also carry a gun, which is quite effective in stopping would-be rapists - I have a friend who did this exact thing a number of years ago. But that’s a different topic. She also moved out of that bad neighbourhood where that happened as fast as she could.)
