Let's take a look at Exodus 21:22-25.
If the mother is killed, the penalty is "a life for a life". That's the penalty for murder. If the mother is injured, the penalty is "eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise". That's the penalty for seriously injuring someone.
But if the baby is killed, the penalty is whatever fine the husband demands and the court allows. It was not the same penalty as the penalty for murder or even for injuring the mother.
There are lots of passages that address infanticide, child sacrifice, etc., but I am not aware of any passages that address abortion - parents deciding to kill their own child before it is born.

Re: Abortion?
From a biblical perspective, I see no moral difference between killing these children and killing your children or mine. And in general, dehumanizing people like that is very dangerous for a society.

And this gets back to when is a human a human. Some would argue when they take their first breath on their own as God brought man to life by breathing the breath of life into his nostrils and man became a living soul. This, they would argue, is a biblical perspective.

I think Franklin can be an extreme misanthrope. I’m not comfortable with this attitude either.

Re: Abortion?
If you read the Bible as a rule book, there are many things not spelled out. If you read it and understand it as a guidebook, then you can easily see how it applies to many things not clearly spelled out. This is the legalism that Jesus spoke out against when he was walking on earth. Scripture should not dictate, but guide us. We also need a community to help us discern how it guides us. When one decides for themself what it is saying, one often misunderstands. When we are open to others inputs and admonishment, we will find a much better balanced way to interpret and put into place the principles we find in Scripture.
Abortion is murder. We can easily see that murder is spelled out as wrong and against God's plan for us. It is against OT and NT teachings.

It is not just misanthropic. The original statement from Franklin approves of eugenics.Szdfan wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 10:35 amI think Franklin can be an extreme misanthrope. I’m not comfortable with this attitude either.

Franklin also wanted everyone who took the Covid vaccine to die. Which would be about 78% of the US population and about 68% of the worldwide population according to the latest figures. Or about 6 billion people.joey_the_ox wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 11:17 amIt is not just misanthropic. The original statement from Franklin approves of eugenics.
I'm not sure his moral compass is calibrated quite the same as the rest of ours.

Yes, I don't expect Christians to agree with my misanthropy, but I plan to write a post explaining why Christians should support eugenics eventually. But that isn't for this thread. The most informative comment for me was this comment by Szdfan and I attribute what this comment says to the declining quality of people, both Christians and others, which banning abortion will just accelerate. But Mennonites manage to mostly avoid this problem by having a fairly isolated gene pool and allowing their degenerate children to leave the group, thereby avoiding the dysgenic effects of modern culture. As a result, I can get more intelligent responses on this forum than almost anywhere else on the internet.joey_the_ox wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 11:17 am It is not just misanthropic. Well, that worked for Hitler. Most Christians in Germany were on board with this. I hope we have learned from that experience.Franklin wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 2:18 pmYes, I don't expect Christians to agree with my misanthropy, but I plan to write a post explaining why Christians should support eugenics eventually. I think Christians should be like Jesus, who really got on the nerves of Jews because of the way he reached out to Samaritans and lepers and other people you would probably consider inferior.

Perhaps the liberals who want to ban guns can provide some guidance, since they think passing laws can force people to change.
