I would suggest that a Bible study thread should be moderated with a pretty heavy hand to keep it on topic. The text itself will naturally bring up topics for discussion. I propose that those discussions should adhere to the topic as it relates to the text at hand. There may well be a worthy discussion that strays from that, in which case it should be spun out into its own topic. And, of course, unworthy topics would be sent to the briar patch. I would hate to open a thread on Obadiah only to find the discussion has already reached the point of demands to clarify one’s position on transgender school lunch seating again.

I also think it would also probably help to have a moderator (not necessarily a Moderator) to facilitate the discussion. A good moderator could move the topic along verse by verse every few days, maybe with a question or prompt, not letting the discussion get bogged down on one verse.

Amen ! I would suggest the thread's originator be the moderator and I agree that thread's do tend to wander and I am bad for that. We should be willing to accept the thread's originator moderating and if disagree deal with it through the private messages feature.

It's your thread so give it a go setting your rules.

joey needs to be able to keep the riff raff out, and to corral the bunny trailers. I've been impressed with his postings, and his ability to stay on track and to find common ground w the serious posters.

I think a Bible study sounds interesting and will try to keep up, but summer is my busy time with gardening, etc.

I think there is enough interest to have some good insights/discussions. I'm leaning towards Philippians as suggested by Sudsy. I'll try to write up a rough schedule within the next few days, and then post it here to get feedback.

I’d be interested. I will be traveling quite a bit with the family but would love to participate as I am able.

I wouldn't be against it, although like someone mentioned, the participation might be slim due to the summer season.

Sounds like a great deal and I'd vote for Philippians too.

I'm interested, question is regarding women, would this be like "Church" where women should be silent? As a discussion forum I never saw it as church that way so felt comfortable sharing scriptural viewpoints questions interpretations of accepted, etc-
As a Bible Study" please share expectation of women's participation, thanks!

(P.S. having been "in" Baptist congregations, Evangelical denominations, visiting Anabaptist, member of Pentecost/Charismatic 20 yrs & discovering Eastern Orthodox no matter all this exposure, since I've got had my Orthodox Study Bible it's hard for me to accept any interpretations other than Orthodox. Kind of my "filter" so to speak- is that a problem??
