As I understand it, the 2nd Amendment wasn't incorporated into the 14th Amendment until the year 2010, in the McDonald v. City of Chicago case.

So today, when we clearly have a standing federal army, I'm not sure how the Second Amendment applies.
Just did some more research into this.

These state militias still do exist and the Second Amendment still applies in full force. Currently 25 states have a state defense force (SDF) and all states have laws allowing them.

Here's a link to the PA STATE DEFENSE FORCE VOLUNTEER MILITARY ORGANIZATION —

These state defense forces may or may not be trained for military operations today, but they all are legally entitled to. (The PA SDF is not currently a militia, I think, not armed. However, 23 SDF's are currently listed as militias.)

So, the Second Amendment still applies in full force today just as it did since the founding.

The State Defense Forces are true military entities under State law and are under The command of The Governor of The State.

Unlike state National Guard forces, they cannot be federalized.

Most are used for emergencies and not currently weapons trained, but some are.

Alaska, California, Connecticut, Georgia, Indiana, Puerto Rico and South Carolina are listed as being weapons trained.

It appears some of the armed ones are just token troops who exist mostly as reminders of the legacy of colonial state militias, but still, they are legal entities.

Some of the armed ones have been controversial. Some have been considered more of a liability because of their lack of proper training and been disbanded. They're mostly volunteers only being paid if called to active duty. So, I guess one could argue that - even if legal entities - (the armed ones) only exist on paper today.

Okay, that's enough for that now!
