steve-in-kville wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 9:13 am Whenever you ban something, it just pushes people to access the gray/black market for product or services. In no way shape or form am I in favor of abortions, but I wonder how many "underground" clinics will pop up (more than there are already).
It's not going to be banned, it's going to back to the states to legislate it. Personally, I don't think criminalizing obtaining an abortion makes sense. It's should be criminalized to provide one.
Agreed, as I said in the other thread, overturning Roe v. Wade would give the power back to the states and the people, and not the nine unelected justices whose purpose is to make sure our laws are Constitutional. I predict every state, will allow it, but set the amount of weeks of gestation before abortion is illegal. Except for very liberal states such as New York and California, where abortion might be legal up until right before the baby is born.

On a side note, In the U.S., the abortion rate for women of color is almost four times that of White women.
On average, 900 black babies are aborted every day in the U.S.

It is interesting that those opposed to systemic racism, (and rightly so) cling to their racism, when it comes to abortion.

It’s an opportunity for black pastors, also, to return to scriptures, to teach The Word, to instill hope and self-respect,
when the world is swimming in prideful SIN - and so many becoming wealthy as a result! (hollywood)

It’s really about CHOICE - CHOICE BEFORE CONCEPTION. God provides.

The devastation wrought upon the black community (often with “good” intentions, not godly intentions) is (of Biblical proportions).
Can it be ended? Please??

God owns the word, “CHOICE.” Choose God.

This is a time for the Christian church do get really proactive about helping unwanted babies or babies from unfit mothers, to find an adopted home that is Christian and kind!
I couldn't have said it better.
Every church I have been in is pretty enthusiastic about this - most churches have several couples who are actively trying to adopt, often waiting for years for a placement.

I think from both an ethical, and non-ethical standpoint, all abortion should be 100% illegal. Democratic politicians and activists who are currently bloviating, and the leaker are doing Satans work.

Abortion didn't prevent churches from already being proactive about this. Some of the states that are set to ban abortions also have the stingiest social safety nets. I hope what you're calling for becomes real.

Churches and faith-based groups do significant work. (More is needed, secularist groups have tried to push Christians out of their way.) (Closing Catholic adoption services, etc.) Courts have sided with Catholics, but it took time.

.. Nods to conservative colleagues

While Alito’s draft opinion doesn’t cater much to Roberts’ views, portions of it seem intended to address the specific interests of other justices. One passage argues that social attitudes toward out-of-wedlock pregnancies “have changed drastically” since the 1970s and that increased demand for adoption makes abortion less necessary.

Those points dovetail with issues that Barrett – a Trump appointee and the court’s newest member – raised at the December arguments. She suggested laws allowing people to surrender newborn babies on a no-questions-asked basis mean carrying a pregnancy to term doesn’t oblige one to engage in child rearing.

“Why don’t the safe haven laws take care of that problem?” asked Barrett, who adopted two of her seven children.

Much of Alito’s draft is devoted to arguing that widespread criminalization of abortion during the 19th and early 20th century
belies the notion that a right to abortion is implied in the Constitution.

The conservative justice attached to his draft a 31-page appendix listing laws passed to criminalize abortion during that period.
Alito claims “an unbroken tradition of prohibiting abortion on pain of criminal punishment…from the earliest days of the common law until 1973.” :-|

“Until the latter part of the 20th century, there was no support in American law for a constitutional right to obtain an abortion. Zero. None. No state constitutional provision had recognized such a right,” Alito adds.

Churches have the great+necessary potential to teach WHY? choosing God’s way is the answer. Why not sin??!
When people grasp “WHY?” the results are so much deeper. Life changing.

Secularists may respond to any given problem, they will not teach the eternal aspects of WHY?

I am amazed that there is a significant enough conscience against abortion to get this overturned nearly 50 years later. (In addition to murder, it is taking advantage of the weak and vulnerable, something the Lord speaks out often against in the Bible.)
Interestingly, there are atheists against abortion. https://www.americamagazine.org/politic ... man-rights
I'm quite sure the overturning of this ruling, as well as strict limitations in states like Texas and Mississippi will result in less murders and at least some more children will get a chance at life.
What I don't know is whether more babies will be abandoned at dumpsters, and so forth.

I agree with Ernie, except that l'm not confident the raw number will be reduced if Roe is overturned. I would expect not much change. DIY, online tutorial solutions will proliferate, clinics will be located across state lines and transportation systems will develop to accommodate demand.

Yes, plenty of homes willing to adopt. What we don't have is enough Christian liaisons to help get these children into homes in a timely manner.

It is suspected that there are 10% less abortions in Texas since laws changed. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/03/06/upsh ... -data.html
I expect that percentage to get smaller as people wanting abortions find alternatives.
However, even if there are 1% less abortions per year in the USA, that is 6000 babies that will have a chance at life. That is a number I can still get excited about.
A couple years ago I met a young man whose mother got pregnant while studying at Westpoint. (90% male students and 10% female students. Go figure.)
Anyhow, the mom was the 40th person that year to seek counsel about what to do with her child. As usual, the counselor gave all the options. Abortion. Adoption. Drop out of college for an unknown length of time. (The first 39 women chose abortion.) The counselor was really bothered by this and decided he needed to offer this mom yet another option. He offered that if she wanted to raise the child, she could stay at he and his wife's home. She took him up on this offer. That was about 25 years ago.
The young man got his first introduction to Anabaptists when his biological dad brought him to a "Welcoming People from Non-Anabaptist Background Seminar" at Penn Valley Christian Retreat. That is where I met him.

In Oregon and Washington the conservative Mennonites have run into stiff resistance from the DHS. The DHS's in both these states are infested with Pro-LGBTQIA2S+, anti-religious bigots, who are adamantly opposed to placing foster children with religious families, and further, are keenly interested in making false accusations against conservative foster families with the intention of making them ineligible. And then they moan to the press how there is a shortage of foster families, and they have to place foster children in hotel rooms, and staff that hotel room 24 hours a day with a DHS employee.
