Who is the we?
the Central Mennonite Committee for world warfare of course.
Generally I try to say US rather then we but I missed one. My take is that our loyalty doesn't belong to an earthly empire but I still live in the US and occasionally I refer to it as my nation despite belonging to another.

good one, Soloist. i hope Ernie chuckles.

you do a good job of describing your experiences AND beliefs+loyalties, anyone reading your overall posts would understand the intent of your words. i agree with Josh’s assessments about citizenship above, too.

i expect Ernie does, too. (i’m not entirely sure, maybe he’ll add more, maybe not.) :)

Christianity Today recently posted up a very long article on Ukrainian Mennonites and the war:

Interesting article Ken. I learned quite a bit about the MB heritage in Ukraine - and the complexities of maintaining non-resistance in the face of an aggressor. I feel real empathy for my Ukrainian brethren.

Praying for peace!

yes, the article reflects much of what has been shared in this thread, presented in a cohesive way.
almost as if the author had been reading this forum.

praying for resolution in a situation that (short of divine intervention) seems unlikely to find authentic peace.

What a sloppy article. It completely left out the little detail of how Mennonites in Ukraine joined military forces fighting the Soviet Union in the 1930s and 1940s. That detail seems... rather important.

“Parsing Pacifism: Ukraine’s Mennonite Heritage Shapes Evangelical Responses to Russia”
Anabaptists shaped the Slavic revival. The Sermon on the Mount encouraged endurance under Soviet persecution. But how does nonviolence work in a war?

It didn’t name that one event, but it gave a fair description of the overall difficulties Christians have when responding to war.
Even including Mennonites/Anabaptists, which often is not the case.

It might be helpful to know more about the author, Jayson Casper.
i found this: https://jaysoncasper.com/about/
and this: https://muckrack.com/jayson-casper/articles

i would welcome a paragraph by paragraph comparative response from you and/or other CMs. (and conservative Quakers)
Mr Casper is trying to cover a lot of bases in this report. It didn’t strike me as sloppy so much as ambitious.

i would welcome clarity and added detail.

Authorities in Kyiv dismantled a Soviet-era monument, which symbolized friendship between Russia and Ukraine.

"It took some effort but the Soviet sculpture of the two workers, symbolizing the reunification of Ukraine and Russia, was dismantled this evening," Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko says in a statement on social media.

The statue depicted a Ukrainian and Russian worker on a plinth, holding aloft together a Soviet order of friendship. It was erected in 1982 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Soviet Union.

"This monument ... symbolized friendship between Ukrainian and Russian nations. We now see what this 'friendship' is destruction of Ukrainian cities, ruining the lives of Ukrainians, killing tens of thousands of peaceful people. I am convinced such a monument has an entirely different meaning now," Klitschko said.

My wife mentioned to me this evening a group out there with a doctor dealing with 12-16 year olds who are pregnant now from Russian troops and helping them and encouraging them to keep the babies. While I think that war brings out the worst and how we still have this issue in Japan and Iraq and Afghanistan, at least we prosecute our troops...

This is undoubtedly propaganda and false, and exactly the kind of nonsense that stirs people up to them go and commit actual atrocities against the “enemy”.

Don't you get tired of parroting pro-Kremlin and pro-Putin talking points here Josh? It must be exhausting to keep track of.

The rape of women and children by occupying Russian forces in Ukraine is one of the most extensively documented war crimes in history. There have been all manner of independent human rights investigators interviewing victims and documenting crimes across formerly occupied towns in Ukraine. One can find hundreds upon hundreds of first-hand news stories about rape, murder, torture, and other human rights violations by Russian troops in Ukraine from reliable independent media sources that span the political spectrum.

You are accusing Soloist's wife of lying and disseminating propaganda?!?

Here is an article from the UK about this very topic and the increased demand for abortions and abortion pills in Ukraine: https://inews.co.uk/news/abortion-pills ... en-1586962
