Zelensky prancing about in his snug-fitting t-shirts, noisily shaming world leaders for any hesitation to fully escalate war, makes perfect sense to those who worship self as god. Pride’s current poster boy.

Why are you obsessed with sodomy? This war isn't about that, yet you interject it into this discussion quite often.... why?

of course it seems extraordinary to us in the West, esp in the U.S., with early roots in Puritans, followed by numbers of other Protestant and Anabaptist believers, mostly seeking freedom from Catholicism, but other oppressors, as well. The U.S. remains a young and often naive gov and cultural experiment.

2009 was a stressful time in the U.S. and the world, economies were in chaos. obama had not yet unleashed his full social engineering experiment agenda, so some points in the article may have been easily overlooked, or not understood in full.
With enough creativity, one can use unrelated events from any given year to dismiss just about anything.

Relevant question.
It can be anticipated, if Ukraine (cough) manages anything that can be labeled a victory in this horror, a rainbow flag will be among the first+most visible. Who will question?

To repeat the excerpt from the 2009 Forbes report: (now in this thread, P.81)
i guess i’ll add larger type ..
.. As head of the church's department of foreign church relations, Kirill gained the reputation of a relatively enlightened church leader. He met with Pope Benedict, and he has been attacked by church conservatives for "ecumenism."

More important than his contacts with Catholics, however, has been Kirill's support for a new Russian ideology based on the denial of human rights. At the 10th meeting of the World Russian People's Council--an international public organization headed by the patriarch,
in Moscow, on April 4, 2006--Kirill accused human rights leaders in the West of "dictatorially" forcing societies to accept the right to engage in gambling, euthanasia and homosexuality.

The Council said that there are values "that stand no lower than human rights."
These are "faith, morality, sacred places and homeland."

When these values contradict the realization of human rights, "the society and government and law should harmoniously combine them." How this could be done was not made clear but, according to the Council, it is impossible to tolerate a situation in which human rights "threatened the existence of the motherland."

Alexander Solzhenitsyn lent his support to Kirill's remarks.
In an interview on May 4, 2006, he said that "unlimited rights are exactly what our cave dwelling ancestor had.
Nothing could stop him from snatching meat from his neighbor and finishing him off with a big stick."
He said that what was needed were not human rights but "human obligations."

Solzhenitsyn, of course, was in error. "Rights" exist in relation to a government, so cavemen did not have human rights, let alone "unlimited" human rights. At the same time, the place of rights cannot be taken by obligations. Rights exist as a counterpoise to the obligations imposed by society. To eliminate rights in favor of obligations is to destroy higher moral authority, leaving the individual defenseless before the power of the state.

On the day after his accession to the Patriarchy, Kirill elaborated on his ideas for "harmoniously" combining the demands of the state and human rights. He said that he wanted to base church-state relations on the Byzantine concept of "symphonia," in which a distinction is drawn between the imperial authority and the priesthood, with the former concerned with human affairs and the latter with matters divine. The two are regarded as closely interdependent, and neither is subordinated to the other.

Church scholars have pointed out that there is no example of symphonia successfully defining church-state relations in our times, and the recent history of the Russian Orthodox church indicates that, faced with the power of the Kremlin, it has no interest in becoming a moral force. ..

The vast homosexual bloc/lobby is resolute - AND SMART.
Ultimate chess players.

Maybe God is using this time to intervene. If so, Luke 13:28
Many have been praying for divine intervention for years+years. Not always a pretty sight.

i would be THRILLED to believe “this war isn’t about that.” i am sickened to believe it is.
and that it’s been building over years, it’s not just a spontaneous erratic display.

it’s not a “single-issue” war. i’ve not suggested that.
in my mind, it’s similar to the possibility that GWB attacked Iraq partly due to a family vendetta with SH.

Kirill is now supporting a war that has driven 5 million people from their homeland and divides the Orthodox church, which says a lot about his "values."

as others have been repeating in the Ukraine thread, none of the leaders involved are God-fearing, or without sin(s).
i’m not pointing to Kirill as a spiritual leader, or EO as a superior faith. or state religion as desireable.

i was trying to point to what i’ve noticed as a regular and ongoing rift that many countries and faiths have with the Left West that is regularly ignored, minimized, discredited. Not unlike the way the Left West ignored NATO expansion - until Russia acted - and continue to dismiiss it after.

as long as the Left West chooses to be (at will) tone deaf, conflicts/wars are inevitable. that means real people suffer.

on this forum, others’ values are continuously questioned, in peace or war.
in the Ukraine thread, Ken was pointing out Kirill’s alleged former KGB experience, and his alleged personal wealth, with speculation K’s wealth is in exponential growth. .. ..

i found more in his linked Forbe’s article (i felt) was relevant to the present conflict.
from what i understand, the Pope owns nothing, yet represents vast wealth. i don’t see much difference between the two in that way.

after a person’s first billion, what difference does it make?

biden and many other U.S. politicians claim to be Catholic. i can’t see it, but i don’t judge, i don’t know them, i have nothing more than superficial observations. not to mention, Jesus admonishes us not to judge each other’s faith. i pray for their souls.

U.S. politicians are not selfless public servants devoted to service before self. and neither are (many) U.S. church leaders.

i pray for resolution between godless sinful leaders, esp to end suffering of real people on the ground.
even for real people reported to be itching for violence. (for good reasons, of course.) of course!

It is an obsession, powerful+monied, promoted via taxpayer dollars literally everywhere, spoon fed to everyone’s children.
Forced where unwanted, forced if not celebrated, tolerance is not sufficient.

The gaudy rainbow flag is blasphemy of God’s precious created rainbow, blasphemy of pride, and prideful celebration of sin.
If only claimed Christians would notice and not allow. Blasphemy flown in flag form in MANY Christian churches.

It’s a twofold problem, rejecting the organized political bloc, while loving the brother/sister in imperfection/sin.
The bloc has been WILDLY successful in blurring the lines. The bloc exploits individual souls for its own secular purposes:
now vast national+international political power, special legal protections, access to the public treasury, unbridled access throughout the DOE.

But i’m obsessed.
This personal attack is allowed, my response removed. ok. :D

I think there is a similar theology in the historic black church and they were/are called Marxist as well.
Right.

No, it's actually a theology that employs a Marxist analysis (read: presuppositions antithetical to the Gospel) to arrive at conclusions that put it firmly outside the way of Christ. As easy as it is to take a swipe at "The Right" - calling Liberation Theology for what it is and warning people off of it, is good and necessary, even when done by a group of people that hold political positions you don't care for.

Ok. i’ve adjusted my ideal government. :D
appleman as POTUS, HK as director of the U.S. DOE. no term limits.

my first thought after reading this, “how do i get my granddaughter (and myself) into HK’s school?” then, “is air travel open?”

i’m beginning to read about “presuppositions” .. HK, you must have the best reading list.

Yes, that seems good. In a Christian institution (say a missions board or a school) I might categorize that prohibition differently than 'safety' perhaps something like, "pure, clean, beautiful speech that recognizes the inherent dignity of all" but nevertheless we agree that such things ought to be verboten in our settings. It's sad to me that your Anabaptist construction crew used such speech and held such attitudes about other people.
I am fine with your language. I am also fine with saying we want safe spaces for everyone. That is what I want EMS to be. It is not just self centered improvement but actually caring for other people and their wellbeing. The lack of appropriate communication stems from a lack of empathy...or plainly, love.

FWIW - it isn't relegated to construction crews. Here at EMS we have dealt with semi-routinely, racial comments made by students from your conference (as well as others) that are mostly ignorance and not malicious, but still racist and hurtful, and keeps school from being safe for some. In the past 4-5 years on multiple occasions with different students and their parents I have confronted race/immigrant based jokes, Asian eyes jokes ethnic based jokes, comments made more than once, to people of color - usually adopted students - like 'your my slave" etc. In other cases a comment on buses to a student of color that "black lives don't matter" when driving by BLM signs. These are of course by children and youths and I expect no less. Racism is an inherent part of the sinful human propensity toward partiality and tribalism. It manifests itself individually and with culture...with in groups. And children pick up attitudes around them as well toward immigrants, BLM, etc.

To solve this we have educational/discipleship conversations about what race means in America...we often talk through Ruby Bridges, the 16th street bombing and the siblings that are still alive bearing sensitivity, discipling for humility that we don't actually know what it is like to be a person of color in America. etc. The goal is real empathy, humility, and a seeing all as image bearers of God.

We have real work to do around seeing all people as image bearers of God and loving them like we do ourselves and wanting for them (including at the border) what we would want for ourselves. So Mr. Guyton's work I think is really appropriate and
whether it is called making safe spaces or keeping our conduct holy is really a red herring.

I am not sure that it is.
We are commanded to be holy in our conduct both as individuals and as a corporate body of believers.
There's no such biblical injunction towards safety or inclusivity, which are thoroughly modern, academic terms in the sense that they are intentionally freighted with layered meaning bent towards a particular and often political agenda.

Holiness is a striving towards Christ-likeness; safetyism and DEI are not.

I'd argue that holiness, calling Christians to Christ-likeness, gets us closer to racial harmony or a deconstruction of racial barriers (in the Church) far better than implementations of academic and sociological constructions that are built not on an understanding of Christ as the great Unifier, Universal or common Rock

but rather built on assumptions of unbridgeable difference, identity-group consciousness and an oppressor/oppressed dialectic.
Truth for all is what is needed, definitely including purveyors of attractive+seductive ideologies. No matter how well intended. No substitute for Truth, altho the bunny trails away from Truth are plentiful.

Human reasoning is “just smart enough” to get us all in a whole lotta trouble. How we LOVE it.

NPR / TECHNOLOGY
“You can now ask Google to take your personal data out of its search results”

Google is offering a new tool to anyone who doesn't want their phone number, email or street address and other personal information to be found online: People can ask for their contact details to be stripped from search results.

"The availability of personal contact information online can be jarring," said Michelle Chang, Google's global policy lead for search, as she recently announced the change. She noted that the data could result in "unwanted direct contact or even physical harm."

The new policy sharply lowers Google's bar for removing data from search results. While it previously offered to scrub personal and financial information in cases of a real or potential threat — such as doxxing or identity theft — the company says people can now ask for their information to be removed even if there's no clear risk.

You can fill out a form to take your contact info out of search results
Anyone wanting to submit a removal request can use a special online form that walks users through the process. It asks for things like the URL of any webpages displaying your personal data, along with the search terms and URL of the Google search you used to find those pages. It also recommends including screenshots. ..
it continues ..
