You suggested that perhaps the directories mentioned were not deliberately excluding groups. The CLP directory deliberately excludes groups that do not meet their defined parameters. Or at any rate they only include only churches that do meet their parameters.Ken wrote: ↑Mon Mar 28, 2022 10:20 amWhich part was I wrong about? That they aren't excluding groups deliberately? Or that it isn't a volunteer effort?Ernie wrote: ↑Mon Mar 28, 2022 8:50 amSorry but this time you happen to be wrong.Ken wrote: ↑Sat Mar 26, 2022 12:44 pm Are the directories that you mention deliberately excluding churches from being listed?
Or are the churches in question just not bothering to make sure that they are listed in online directories?
I sort of expect that the online directories you mention are lightly curated volunteer efforts that are largely dependent on the information that people send them. But then I could be wrong.![]()
CLP publishes a directory with defined parameters.
Pilgrim Church finder simply uses the CLP electronic directory.
The Red Book has defined parameters as well.
The most complete source for Plain Anabaptist churches is http://www.beachyam.org/churches.htm. You may need to send multiple requests until you get an answer as Cory is very busy and only responds as he has time.
The directory you linked to is just a Beachy Amish directory, not any sort of comprehensive directory of plain churches.
The CLP directory, the source for Pilgrim Church finder is not a "lightly curated volunteer effort."

Cory, the owner of the Amish-Mennonite site, has the most comprehensive database of plain Anabaptist churches. At the site I linked, part way down the page he has a link to this. http://www.beachyam.org/locate.htm

Chris if you send me a PM or otherwise get in touch, I'd be glad to share information about some churches that are closer to you.

Is Cory an employee of the Beachy Amish? Is he getting paid to do this? Is he deliberately excluding certain churches because of his own private criteria?Ernie wrote: ↑Mon Mar 28, 2022 7:21 pmThe directories are produced by employees, not volunteers.Ken wrote: ↑Mon Mar 28, 2022 10:20 amWhich part was I wrong about? It seems rather sketchy that he doesn't let anyone actually see his database. He keeps it all private and will only give you information on the nearest churches to your home if you request it and give him demographic information for his research? That sounds like the same data mining that Facebook does.

Re: Very frustrated. What churches are in Seminole, TX area?
I am not aware of Cory excluding anyone on purpose, other than the CMC, simply because of the difficulty of keeping track of which CMC churches are still plain. If anything, he would like to include as much as possible, but some groups are very difficult to get information on.Is Cory an employee of the Beachy Amish? Is he getting paid to do this? Is he deliberately excluding certain churches because of his own private criteria?
I would describe what he does as the opposite of what Facebook does. Many of the people who have provided information to him have an explicit request that their information not be placed on the Internet.

This is the problem. I want to know ALL of them. I'd rather go to a BMA or even a less conservative version of BMA at this point. But honestly, I'm on the verge of having NOTHING and I can't move. So I'm stuck filtering every directory throwing up my hands...Ken wrote: ↑Mon Mar 28, 2022 8:13 pmIs Cory an employee of the Beachy Amish? Is he getting paid to do this? As an Anabaptist, it stinks, but I'm very much considering going to a fundamental conservative Baptist church.
I seriously don't need tinted lenses or "this church has a problem with that church".
I just want to know of EVERY SINGLE Anabaptist church in Texas...
I know of:
Grandview Gospel Fellowship (Grandview)
Osceola Christian Fellowship (Osceola)
Faith Mennonite Fellowship (Lott)
Gospel Haven (Chilton)
Living Waters (BMA - Near Lott)
There's two Eastern PA churches
Gray's Prairie Mennonite
and another (I think it's called Willow Springs)
There's a Maranatha near Wolfe CIty
Also there's a Beachy Amish in Bastrop.
There's also a Nationwide Group in the direction of Amarillo.
Churches I don't know about:
Supposedly in Seminole
Supposedly near Paris, TX
What about some German Brethren??

Re: Very frustrated. What churches are in Seminole, TX area?
The only one I can tell you anything about is Faith Mennonite in Lott and that is only because one of the founding families runs Lone Star Structures https://www.lonestarstructures.com/ which is a construction business across the street from the church that makes storage sheds, small barns, and play houses and markets in Waco. I went down and met them when I needed a storage shed and they made such a good product that I turned various of my neighbors and friends onto them. They seemed like very good folks. But then I never visited the church.Chris wrote: ↑Mon Mar 28, 2022 9:00 pmThis is the problem. I want to know ALL of them. Cory can provide that information for you if you ask him often enough.Chris wrote: ↑Mon Mar 28, 2022 9:00 pm This is the problem. I want to know ALL of them. Cory is doing this as a volunteer for the complete Plain Anabaptist community. He does not deliberately exclude certain churches like the CLP and Red Book Publishers do. But volunteers need to fit their work into any available time slots and Cory doesn't have very many right now. He'd probably take volunteers to help him correspond with seekers and help him update his database.Ken wrote: ↑Mon Mar 28, 2022 8:13 pm Is Cory an employee of the Beachy Amish? Cory will sell you a license to use his database but you need to use Streets and Trips to run it (which Josh can help you get) and it hasn't been updated in 7 years.
