Alberta,Saskatchewan and Quebec announced Tuesday plans to lift COVID-19 restrictions, saying it will increasingly be up to citizens to assess the risks they face from the virus.

Prince Edward Island also outlined plans to end most measures early in April, with Premier Dennis King cautioning that the loosening is not a declaration of victory. "COVID is still with us, and it will be with us," he said.

Alberta was to get started right away. Starting at midnight Tuesday, the province said it would end its COVID-19 vaccine passport program for non-essential businesses and events.

Starting Monday, it will lift its mask mandate for children 12 and under and for all students in schools. All other restrictions, including indoor masking rules and gathering limits, are to be removed on March 1.

Premier Jason Kenney said people need to live to learn with COVID-19.

"We cannot remain at a heightened state of emergency forever. We have to begin to heal," he said.

Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe said that province will no longer require COVID-19 vaccine passports as of Monday and will not renew its indoor mask mandate when it expires at the end of March.

Moe told reporters in Regina that the policy requiring people to show proof of vaccination or a recent negative COVID-19 test to dine at restaurants, go to bars or purchase liquor is divisive and has "run its course."

He said the policy was warranted in the fall, when the province was facing the Delta variant of the novel coronavirus, but vaccines do not provide sufficient protection against Omicron transmission to justify it now.

"During that Delta wave, I do believe that the benefits of this policy most certainly did outweigh the costs," Moe said. "But today, as we deal with a very different strain, the Omicron variant, the benefits of this policy no longer outweigh the costs."

Moe said it will be up to people in the province to do their own "personal risk assessment" when deciding whether to attend events, or wear masks once the provincial mandate ends.

Pace yourself. March for Life has marched peacefully for 50+ years. :D

In Seattle, it was lib politicians proudly pirating taxpayer dollars to aid violent anarchists. They accomodated every whim.
Billions in immediate damages, overall increased homicides, violence, is the fruit of their actions. Politicians go free. Taxpayers pay.

Ottawa, and Canada, may very well be enjoying less crime and more consumer spending resulting from this peaceful convoy.
Attempts at smears should be noted and not forgotten. Refusal to report fairly should not be forgotten.
Robert:
.. Again, just reporting, not fully supporting what they are doing. I understand what they are doing and really value their desire to be peaceful.
 Crime is down 90% in Ottawa right now too.
That is saying something.
i’m getting an idea that a world run by “ordinary” blue collar workers might be a big improvement over legacy/status quo.
maybe their minds haven’t been forced through the lib sieve. they’re still capable of independent thought, morality, common sense.

The widely ignored job description is: Public Servants https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/care ... ic-servant
i have to believe this was grounded in scriptural wisdom of “a servant’s heart.”
The Bible was “communications central” for many years.

“servant’ and “slave” are not dirty words. just the opposite. Truth is NOT taught. :-|

From the start, convoy leaders were adamant about being NONPARTISAN. my hope is with them.
Other than blatant lib smears, all indications are: this is NONPARTISAN.

If they’re able, let Canada lead the world away from mind-numbing partisan politics.
There are no winners on that sorry empty path.

“Canada’s Warm February?!”

You know, as much as I sympathize with the convoy, I did have a bit of an epiphany today. At what point here does the plugged up city become just the flip side of Seattles/Portlands liberal autonomous zones? At some point if a city is shut down long enough, the two groups might begin to look similar.
A key difference is violence, disorderliness, and ending up begging the city to bail them out, which is what happened at CHAZ. People got murdered and eventually they wanted the police to come help.

If the trucker convoy decays into chaos and they end up wanting emergency city services, I won’t be very sympathetic. The trucker convoy has so far displayed a level of commitment to disavowing violence and chaos that is commendable.

It is very much like how MLK steered the civil rights movement away from violent protests.
(i believe) RZehr is trying to put libs+conservatives in the same boat, i agree, there is nothing INHERENTLY better about either.

but, facts add up. MLK Jr was a Republican, as is his ignored living niece, Dr Alveda King.
they can’t very well be used as models of lib politics/actions. awkward.

just think.
if Dr A King would only embrace for profit corporate abortion - she might be appointed to the USSC. and/or have a national holiday established in her name. in the least, she would be remembered in Black History Month.

evidently, she’s not here for earthly glory. it could be a sure thing for her. if only she would sell her soul.

correct where mistaken. :)

I have opinions about this. I have deep feelings about this. Truckers are, in a very real sense, "my people." Maybe one day I'll find the words to say what's inside. Maybe not. But one thing is certain, what is on most of the news is so far from reality, it's disgusting.

i hope you open up about it, too.
either way, i think this group is resonating a lot because - who doesn’t have a trucker in their family, extended family, and/or friends??
honest, hard-working men, providing essential service, with very little or no recognition. smeared by politicians. taken for granted.

stepping up as they are, they will be hard to dismiss. because they really are who they say they are. they aren’t making it up.
and they represent the spectrum of humanity.

pretty interesting.

I had uncles who drove for as long as I can remember, I have cousins who own trucking companies. My oldest brother has driven truck since he was old enough to get his license. My father in law is a retired trucker. Another brother holds an AZ license and drives some, my father had his license and delivered feed/fertilizer for a local Co-op when I was younger. I letter/stripe trucks almost daily. Truckers are my clients and my friends. About half of my work is for truck drivers. And the last few weeks? Well, they really kept me hopping. A handful of my signs may have appeared on the news, or at least live feeds. A truck I lettered was on Fox News. These guys are, in a very real sense, "my people."
