Is it from the number of cases or did they loose a number of people because of vaccine mandates?

Oh I’m sure they’ve lost a few due to mandates, although not too many. The hospital systems around here have been requiring vaccinations of Healthcare workers for years. It goes with the job. From what I hear, The main reasons our hospital system is overrun is because of a high volume of Covid patients Compounded by a lot of staff out due to testing positive.

Re: Coronavirus Outbreak
If they are vaccinated, why worry about a positive test if asymptomatic? Does this not suggest the vaccine is not effective?

Re: Coronavirus Outbreak
I suspect that a positive test means they might be contagious- something not wanted in a hospital. Omicron, as you know, is producing more breakthrough cases.

Re: Coronavirus Outbreak
Research has shown that asymptomatics do not spread the disease. Why not just have them wear a mask if they work.

Re: Coronavirus Outbreak
Interesting idea. I’m not very familiar with the research you are claiming, nor do I know what percentage of positive testing healthcare workers have no symptoms. As a rule, I suspect hospital systems nationwide are fairly strict about potentially contagious employees not working- and that seems like a good thing to me.

(The Center Square) – The head of Indianapolis-based insurance company OneAmerica said the death rate is up a stunning 40% from pre-pandemic levels among working-age people.
“We are seeing, right now, the highest death rates we have seen in the history of this business – not just at OneAmerica,” the company’s CEO Scott Davison said during an online news conference this week. “The data is consistent across every player in that business.”
OneAmerica is a $100 billion insurance company that has had its headquarters in Indianapolis since 1877. The company has approximately 2,400 employees and sells life insurance, including group life insurance to employers in the state.
Davison said the increase in deaths represents “huge, huge numbers,” and that’s it’s not elderly people who are dying, but “primarily working-age people 18 to 64” who are the employees of companies that have group life insurance plans through OneAmerica.
“And what we saw just in third quarter, we’re seeing it continue into fourth quarter, is that death rates are up 40% over what they were pre-pandemic,” he said.
“Just to give you an idea of how bad that is, a three-sigma or a one-in-200-year catastrophe would be 10% increase over pre-pandemic,” he said. “So 40% is just unheard of.”
Davison was one of several business leaders who spoke during the virtual news conference on Dec. 30 that was organized by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce.
Most of the claims for deaths being filed are not classified as COVID-19 deaths, Davison said.

Re: Coronavirus Outbreak
That’s weird. If 100% of their staff are vaccinated, why are they out sick testing positive?Dan Z wrote: ↑Sun Jan 02, 2022 10:53 pmOh I’m sure they’ve lost a few due to mandates, although not too many. Masking and social distancing 6 feet do nothing with an airborne virus. I have been saying this for over 6 months. Ernie, you list is outdated and will be ineffective.Cloth masks are not going to provide a lot of protection against COVID-19 at this stage in the pandemic, a top health expert said on Sunday.
Dr. Scott Gottlieb, a former Food and Drug Administration commissioner and Pfizer board member, stressed how scientists now understand just how much the coronavirus spreads through airborne transmission, which cloth face coverings are not very effective against stopping, versus droplet transmission.
"Cloth masks aren't going to provide a lot of protection, that's the bottom line. This is an airborne illness. We now understand that, and a cloth mask is not going to protect you from a virus that spreads through airborne transmission. It could protect better through droplet transmission, something like the flu, but not something like this coronavirus," Gottlieb said on CBS News's Face the Nation.
