Here is someone else who covered for Josh Duggar back in the day, further illustrating my point. This article is also from 2015: https://www.cnn.com/2015/05/22/politics ... index.html
Mike Huckabee stands by Josh Duggar, family

Mike Huckabee is standing by the Duggar family following the admission by eldest son Joshua Duggar that he committed “inexcusable” actions as a teenager, amid a shocking report outlining multiple allegations of child molestation against him.

“Josh’s actions when he was an underage teen are as he described them himself, ‘inexcusable,’ but that doesn’t mean ‘unforgivable,’” Huckabee wrote in a Facebook post. “He and his family dealt with it and were honest and open about it with the victims and the authorities. No purpose whatsoever is served by those who are now trying to discredit Josh or his family by sensationalizing the story.”

Huckabee said that “good people make mistakes and do regrettable and even disgusting things,” and accused those who revealed the allegations of “insensitive bloodthirst,” and said Josh Duggar had redeemed himself in living a “responsible and circumspect life as an adult.”

A police report published by In Touch magazine on Thursday night outlined multiple allegations of child molestation by Josh Duggar, now 27, against underage girls that happened when he was 14 and 15 years old, and were reported to the Springdale police when he was 18.

“Twelve years ago, as a young teenager, I acted inexcusably for which I am extremely sorry and deeply regret,” Josh Duggar said in a statement. “I hurt others, including my family and close friends.”

Duggar’s statement appears to refer to a 2006 police report in In Touch magazine’s story.

I find it humorous when people try to convince me Bill Gothard was a bad dude.

Which part is humorous?
  • That you can be convinced of anything?
  • That Bill Gothard was actually a bad dude?
  • Or that you ever believed otherwise?

And then there is this: Jana Dugger charged with child endangerment.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/articl ... child.html

How sad for this family and how sad for the Christian testimony that has been besmirched through their family. It would have been better if they stayed out of the limelight, didn't make themselves into a spectacle, but quietly raised their family in humility and unpretentiousness.

I am reminded once again of the verses.

Proverbs 11:2 “When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.”
Proverbs 16:5 “The LORD detests all the proud of heart. Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished.”
Proverbs 16:18 “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.”

This is why I increasingly have no time for famous, high-profile people who claim to be christians. I believe the process of achieving wide-spread fame is incompatible with being a Christian. Quiet in the land would have worked much better for all of us in this case.

After raising 3 girls with all the minor struggles and attention that each one needed, I can't begin to imagine intentionally taking on the task of raising 19.

Exactly. That can not have been healthy for any of those kids. None of whom agreed to any of it I expect.

Which I ascribe to the early church understanding that any form of public theater is immoral because as it does detrimental spiritual harm to the actors.
