Curious what Ken, Boot and Dan think about these measures.
I haven't really paid any attention to Australia since the fires last year. But it sounds like Australia really wants its citizens to get vaccinated. If I lived there I would get vaccinated and move on with my life, just like I have here. And just like I expect the vast majority of Australians are doing. I've been vaccinated dozens and dozens of times since I was an infant. Often times they were required for various reasons like school attendance. It has been a trivial and universal experience in modern society since I was about 5. Maybe when I was a toddler it was more traumatizing but I don't really remember.
Ken, this isn’t about vaccines.
This is about the fact everyone (even the vaccinated) has been under 200+ days of lockdowns in my hometown; my brother (who is fully vaccinated) probably won’t be allowed to travel here in December. Basically nobody has any civil rights. And speaking up against these measures is now illegal.
It’s become a totalitarian police state. Basically, it’s what you seem to want America to do. Citizens with no rights who literally GET ARRESTED if they are caught more than 5 miles from home. Businesses and schools shut down if 1 person tests positive with a covid case.
And citizens aren’t allowed to LEAVE the country… for their “safety”.
Of course this is about vaccines. Every single link that Falco provided to start this thread was about vaccinations. Feel free to scroll up to the top and see.
And both Australians and non-Australians are free to travel to and from Australia with the exception of people coming from the recent Omicron variant countries in Africa. Here is the actual Australian government web site detailing travel restrictions: https://covid19.homeaffairs.gov.au/travel-restrictions

There does seem to be quite a bit of overreaction occurring at the federal level regarding the new variant. The South African doctor who first discovered the variant notes that the symptoms are "very mild".
"It presents mild disease with symptoms being sore muscles and tiredness for a day or two not feeling well," Coetzee explained. "So far, we have detected that those infected do not suffer the loss of taste or smell. They might have a slight cough. There are no prominent symptoms. Of those infected some are currently being treated at home."
Sweden: Get Your Covid Vaccine Passport in a Chip in Your Hand
"Get your Covid certificate in a chip in your hand or elsewhere under the skin. It is increasingly popular to insert a chip into the body with different types of information and now you can also insert your Covid certificate in the chip.” – Aftonbladet, Sweden’s daily newspaper reported.
Beginning December 1, Swedes will need a vaccine passport to go to theaters, concerts and other larger indoor events.
Microchipping is voluntary… for now, but give it some time and the Covid tyrants will make it mandatory in order for people to participate in society.
Every state already has a vaccine database and has had so for many years. For example, this is the one for the State of Washington: https://www.doh.wa.gov/YouandYourFamily ... nformation It is a good thing because paper records are easily lost. We have moved a bunch and I'm not entirely sure where all the original paper records for all my kid's vaccines are, or if we even have them still. So if I want to know when one of my kids got their last MMR or has an up to date tetanus shot I can look it up online. It is especially important for kids who bounce around between different parents, are in foster care, or whatever.
I think this would just allow the different state databases to talk to each other so that if you move from one state to another you or your child's vaccination record can more easily follow.

Ken, just curious. Do you still believe that vaccines are as effective as you initially thought? Do you still think vaccination is the best or only way to "end" the pandemic? I'd like to know where you're at right now.
I don’t need the federal government’s help to keep track of vaccines. I still have my yellow WHO card from my childhood vaccinations.
If we do have to be tracked like cattle (or like chickens being inoculated for Marek’s disease), records can be kept at the county level - just like birth certificates, car titles, and so on.

Yes, given human behavior they are probably the best way. Not the only way. We could completely end the pandemic in 2 weeks if everyone just acted responsibly, isolated and didn’t spread the disease to anyone else. It would completely die out that fast. But since that isn’t happening vaccines are the next best solution.
I never thought they were 100% effective and neither did anyone else. Back in 2020 when they were still under development scientists were hoping or 60-70% effectiveness. Most of the vaccines have exceeded original expectations.
My whole family is vaccinated and we are all out working in jobs with lots of contact with the public. None of us have caught Covid. So it seems to be working for us. If they end up needing to make a new booster for omicron variant or any additional variants I’ll happily take that too. It is a trivial hassle. I’ve taken dozens of different vaccines since I was an infant in the 1960s. That is just a part of life in the modern world. There are probably a thousand different things in my life that are a bigger hassle than the possibility of having to get an occasional vaccine or booster.
