For the record, Wade, I am very happy with this type of approach. And I am not condemning anyone.
I'm simply appealing to those who resist changes to the way they did things pre-pandemic, and asking that such folks respect those who have made some changes in the last year and a half, rather than accuse us of being unethical. That's all I am attempting to do in this thread.

The problems you scent here have found a more precise treatment in different ways in theology and philosophy. Or better we can say that a precise understanding has shown that there are more than one problem, but most of them are related to each other.

Giving them $17 million is inherently immoral.

I take it then that you support giving money to murderers and kidnappers? Why would you say that giving kidnappers money isn't an ethical and moral problem?

Yes, doing so is wrong and immoral and something Christians missionaries should never do.

I see giving money to kidnappers for the release of hostages as an amoral issue. I think wisdom should dictate which situations giving kidnappers are wise and which ones are unwise. A person can pray for wisdom. If wisdom does not seem to give a clear answer, the Lord's will should still be sought.

I disagree but thank you for your response

So if a violent thief points a gun at you and says your money or your life you the moral thing to do is to give your life. The immoral thing is to hand over your wallet?

Or if he goes to steal your car etc. Surely it is not moral to ransom your own life but not another's.

That hardly stands to reason. I agree with Ernie.

Not the same thing.

Overall, though, society would be much better if people refused to give money to muggers.

Giving $17 million to a violent criminal group is obviously wrong, and doing so will wreak even more violence and hurt upon Haitians.
