Yes, we do buy potatoes year round. We also like growing our own. Didn't want all that hard work rotting away!

I ordered a 5 gal bucket of flour and kidney beans. I got a #10 can of egg whites. All these are long term storage for up to 25 years.

They are added to my 5 gal of 16 bean mix, 5 gal white rice, 5 gal of egg noodles, and 5 gal of potato flakes. I have 3 #10 cans of dried fruits too. Should just about be set.

All have a 25 year shelf life.

The flour is the only thing I would worry about keeping that long, not from spoilage but from bugs. Does it come already sealed airtight in the bucket?

That sounds great.

Freeze drying is also a terrific way to preserve food for long term storage. I know a guy locally who is making it into a business. He's doing the normal fruits and veggies but also just for fun, candy. Freeze dried Starburst and Skittles and other things. They are really unique and awesome.

You can add a little food grade diatomaceous earth to containers of dry food to keep bugs out.

Since both my parents live/lived into their late nineties, I suspect I will still be around. I hope to eat them way before that. Most likely cycle them in about 10 years if not needed before that.

The chickens have finally started laying eggs! This evening our son brought 6 eggs in. 2 green, 2 blue, 1 brown and 1 cream.
