The reason you do not see this across mainstream media is because it goes against the narrative they have been preaching over the last 5 years. I do not find that surprising but it should disturb all of us.
That some of you are trying to make this as no big deal? I guess I find that not only surprising but very disturbing.
It is clear that this boy is a sexual predator. He was apparently found guilty of two sexual assaults or rapes, one in a bathroom and one in a classroom and is now in juvenile detention. So the process worked.

What is not clear from any of the reporting is if he is a transgender student. The only reporting on the topic is quotes from one of the girl’s parents who claimed that he was “gender fluid” which is not actually the same thing as transgender. For example, David Bowie was gender fluid, performing in makeup and feminine clothes and such to make a statement and be socially transgressive. But he was not transgender and did not live his life as a woman. Words do have meaning. Due to the confidentially surrounding minor offenders we may never know more details.

In addition this case actually had nothing to do with transgender bathroom policies which were not actually in effect and not something that this student was taking advantage of. I expect that many sexual assaults have occurred in school bathrooms over the years that have had nothing to do with transgender students or transgender bathroom policies.

Really Are you sure? All the reports I read say this happened in a girl’s washroom in a school that allowed guys dressed as girls to use the girl’s washroom. What am I missing?

Yes I am sure. I don't know what policy was in effect at that time, but transgender bathroom policies don't even have anything to do with dress. And I highly doubt the school policy was to "allow guys dressed as girls to use the girls washroom" These policies are not about how one is dressed. They are about what is the student's consistent gender identity which is a separate issue entirely.

What you are missing is that the huge majority of girls at the school where I teach (and probably most schools) wear jeans, t-shirts, hoodies or fleece sweatshirts, and sneakers, just like the boys. The last male to female transgender student I had in class last year dressed exactly the same, in jeans, hoodies, and sneakers. I don't think I ever once saw her wearing anything else. As I recall, she did have a "Hello Kitty" backpack and somewhat longer hair than the average guy. But that was about it.

Here are two random photos of students from the public web site of my school. Can you describe based on clothing alone which students are dressed as girls and which are dressed as boys?

And here is a larger group photo of students from the local newspaper coverage of a student walkout protest about school shootings from 2019. There are over 100 students pictured here. Can you point to what you would consider "dressed as girls"

Some schools are moving to unisex restrooms with locking full-door toilet stalls but communal sink and hand washing areas. But that sort of architectural and plumbing change is exceedingly expensive and probably more the thing you will see in new construction rather than remodels.

And as a teacher I can envision putting in locking toilet stalls with full doors will open up whole new cans of worms related to things like drug use, drug dealing, and consensual promiscuity.

Honestly I think that just accommodating the rare and infrequent transgender student is really the simplest and easiest option and that all the sound and fury over this is coming from a small minority of parents not students, who generally really don't care.

Because the 98% or so of ordinary straight heterosexual high school kids have raging hormones and it makes sense to keep them apart when undressed? And most girls probably don't want to see a bunch of guys standing around with their "junk" in their hands aiming at urinals?

Point is, if you have a HS daughter, it is the star linebacker who is jacked up on steroids, weight lifting, aggression, and adrenaline who your daughter needs to be on her guard about, not some LGBT trans kid. And everywhere, not just the bathrooms. That is the actual reality. Sexual assault does happen in public (and private) schools. But the story is much more likely to be something like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steubenvi ... _rape_case

I honestly don’t have strong feelings or opinions about this either way. I think the primary reason why we segregate bathrooms is social convention and what we are comfortable with.

I do, however, have strong opinions about using bathrooms to demonize a vulnerable group of people. The entire “moral panic” about the supposed transgender horde out to rape your daughters in gender neutral bathrooms began soon after it no longer was politically and culturally acceptable to attack same-sex marriages.

I don’t think any of this is really about bathrooms. I think it’s about attacking queer people and pushing a group further into the margins.

In Virginia it is actually about the culture war and the current governor's race. I guess we will see in a week or so whether waging war on transgender kids is good politics or not.

I think that’s also been true a lot of the time. Fighting cultural war battles over LGBTQ rights has been good politics for conservatives.
