I’m surprised nobody has jumped on this thread to try to tamp down the evil, and make it seem more reasonable. Slackers!
What do you actually expect people to say?
Sexual assault and rape are always a horrible crime and a sin.
Although I suspect if you looked up the statistics you would find that that the incidence of sexual assault by athletes is orders of magnitude higher than the incidence of sexual assault by LGBT students. Should we ban athletics too?
That's a poor question in my opinion. The question isn't about banning LGBT students. It's about banning boys from using girls' restrooms. There are common sense steps to take to avoid sexual assault. If an institution cares about reducing assaults, there are all kinds of common sense steps to take.
As an example, as a volunteer in county prison I sometimes witnessed female corrections officers patting down male inmates during routine checks. You can probably imagine the catcalling and lewd comments that generally occurred. And yes, sexual liaisons between officers and inmates were known to have happened at this facility. Common sense would tell you that the practice of having females pat down males is an unwise practice. Similarly with allowing boys to use girls' restrooms.

Considering the frequency that we catch heterosexual couples in single-sex bathrooms at my school, I’m not sure that single-sex bathrooms are the deterrent you think it is.

Oh, my goodness. Yes, bathrooms may as well be a free-for-all, then.

But more seriously, would you say that the fact that students hook up all the time in single-sex bathrooms is a reason to just go ahead and allow boys to identify as girls and use the girls' restrooms?

No, I don’t think that’s a reason.
I think the reason is that you try to treat trans students with the same dignity and respect that you treat other students. My school turned the faculty bathrooms into gender neutral bathrooms. They are single toilet. I think that’s acceptable.

I recognize those apologies very clearly. I used to make those kinds of apologies when I was an unregenerate lying dirtbag trying to get out of trouble. He can take those apologies and shove them. They are BS.

Oh yes, it's obvious that it's an apology he was forced into by public pressure. The only thing interesting about it is that it shows that that pressure is there.

It's not the athletics per se. It's the cultural obsession with athletics and coddling of star athletes that creates a culture of impunity, especially around football. I have 3 daughters, one still in HS. To the extent that she is at risk from sexual assault at school I expect it is far more likely to be from a jock than an LGBT student. That is especially the case in many more rural football-obsessed communities. There are endless stories of sexual assaults by football players that get brushed under the rug in many communities because star athletes are involved.
If you care about sexual assault in high schools, that would be the place to start.

I have complained about gender specific single occupant bathrooms for years. They are stupid. I can’t think of a single rational reason for that stupidity. When I encounter it, if I have to go really bad, I will cheerfully walk into the women’s restroom and use it. I’m not going to pee myself because of that stupidity.
I disagree with the general motive of changing this, but I sure do agree with changing it.
PS. For all the people who want to talk about how the men’s restroom is so nasty and women shouldn’t be subjected to that… Those people have apparently never had to work in women’s restrooms like I have. Neither gender has the advantage.
