Ken,

So are you saying banning drugs would be a good thing?

I don’t see why engaging in violence is somehow more acceptable just because it’s fuelled by drugs or alcohol.

Day 6 of the trial (yesterday).

I'm not watching it, but my wife is watching parts of it and says the trial is to wrap up Friday.

I’m not sure why you feel compelled to make everything into an argument Josh. The discussion was about defense attorneys and I simply passed on the experience of one of my good friends who is in that line of work who related to me that nearly every defense case he ever gets as a public defender has some connection to drugs or substance abuse. Nearly every one. Both legal and illegal drugs. The cases that have zero connection to drugs or substance abuse like this Mark Gooch case are pretty rare. Especially for public defenders who largely defend the poor and indigent. Things like financial crimes, corruption, and embezzlement are more commonly crimes of the professional class and rich who have private attorneys.

I’m not proposing any solutions. Just pointing out that a very high percentage of cases that clog the criminal justice system have some connection to drugs and substance abuse. Whether they are drug crimes directly (dealing or possession), violence fueled by drug crimes like gang murders, petty theft and robbery fueled by drug habits, or things like domestic violence fueled by drugs and alcohol. Do you think that is an incorrect or inaccurate take on the state of criminal justice in the US today?

My opinion is that violence, burglary, theft and so forth are a result of sin, and people making conscience, sinful choices. Blaming it on drugs or alcohol is just an excuse.

I am not watching, but listening as I do my work. I do stop occasionally if they put anything on display. Yesterday they put up a photo of Sasha's body. I can't imagine what this poor young lady went through before she was muurdered. Also listened to the investigator's interview with Mark Gooch and he kept changing his story.

There two sets of parents that are in deep pain. Sasha's parents and Mark Gooch's parents and they need our prayers.

For sure. This is the unthinkable for both sets of parents.

Well it looks like one forensic examiner is saying that the bullet does match Gooch's gun and the other one says it does not match. Hmmmm....

Having observed expert witnesses in the past, this does not surprise me in the least. One is getting paid to say that the bullet matches, and the other to say it does not match.

I've honestly never understood how they can match slugs to guns. Gun manufacturers produce tens of thousands of identical firearms using the same machine tools. How are they not all indistinguishable?

My understanding is that in use each gun develops distinctive scratches that it marks the projectile with.
