CHAZ is long gone. Yes there is a big spike in murders out here and elsewhere. I don’t know about everywhere else but in Portland it is almost entirely gangbangers shooting themselves up. Mostly Black and some Hispanic. Is it a big problem? Yes. Well, technically, it is less than 1/10th the number of Covid deaths in Portland this year and Portland has one of the lowest Covid death rates in the country. But still, gun violence among urban gangs is indeed a problem. What is the solution? Throwing more money into policing?Josh wrote: ↑Thu Sep 23, 2021 10:41 amMy point is you always respond, in my opinion, by saying these are isolated incidents and no big deal. An example was your opinion on CHAZ. You and I argued about a spike in crime in Seattle and Portland, for example.Ken wrote: ↑Thu Sep 23, 2021 10:37 amNo, only when it actually is an isolated incident. This is one small alternative elementary school in a district that has over 50 schools. It doesn't represent anything other than the overzealous actions of one idiot principal. Not everything that happens is creeping authoritarianism leading us into Nazi Germany either.
There are thousands of schools in the state of Washington. Can you tell us how many other schools in the state had this same policy? Are there any others at all that were following this lead? Or was it actually really just an isolated incident?
Turns out these aren’t isolated incidents. Portland’s murder rate this year is 4X what it was two decades ago. And across the country the murder rate is up 30%. So yes, these kind of ridiculous incidents like CHAZ or making children cover their faces for no reason need talked about and should not be dismissed as no big deal.

I have no idea what is next.Ken wrote: ↑Thu Sep 23, 2021 10:29 amAnd then they changed their mind and reversed themselves. School bureaucracies are like that. What is it that you think is next?GaryK wrote: ↑Thu Sep 23, 2021 10:25 amWell no, the district backed it, according to the report.Ken wrote: ↑Thu Sep 23, 2021 10:19 am
Well no, it was just one single small alternative Montessori elementary school in a large district with dozens of other schools. And it was due to one over-zealous principal who was not actually following district or state guidance. What's next is that he was told to knock it off.Tacoma’s Geiger Montessori School demanded elementary students chew and swallow their lunch with their mask on while in the cafeteria. The district backed the policy by citing guidance that doesn’t exist. It actually says masks shouldn’t be worn while eating lunch.

Re: Coronavirus Outbreak
Well, hopefully we finally bring the pandemic to a close. Covid numbers are dropping here in WA so that is a good sign.

Considering far less people got shot before the “defund the police” movement, yes, going back to 2019 norms would be a good thing.Ken wrote: ↑Thu Sep 23, 2021 11:08 amCHAZ is long gone. Re: Coronavirus Outbreak
I was told by a paramedic that works at the Cleveland clinic that they went red. I asked what that meant there, and she said now you can only have one visitor instead of two. I said I assume that visitor has to be vaccinated, and she said no, at this point it doesn't really make any difference! She said they're getting vaccinated and unvaccinated people in the hospital

Re: Coronavirus Outbreak
Haven’t seen anybody doing that down here, except for the old lady who was in the bank talking and sitting visiting with the manager for about an hour (she was there as long as we were). She wore a mask but took it off as soon she stepped outside. Nobody else in the branch was.Valerie wrote: ↑Thu Sep 23, 2021 2:38 pmI was told by a paramedic that works at the Cleveland clinic that they went red. Re: Coronavirus Outbreak
That's why we have gone "down there" every week since they shut down last year. There has been a lot of covid in Holmes county. We went to the pharmacy that helped the Amish out so much with covid. Even dropping the protocol meds off at their homes. Since I knew that I assumed if need be I can get the same thing from them but since I wasn't Amish they wouldn't let me buy it for my husband. I am trying to keep him out of the hospital because of the horror stories I've heardJosh wrote: ↑Thu Sep 23, 2021 7:21 pmHaven’t seen anybody doing that down here, except for the old lady who was in the bank talking and sitting visiting with the manager for about an hour (she was there as long as we were). Re: Coronavirus Outbreak
People feel more comfortable with Amish and other plain people since they don’t sue. Our family doctor and birth centre made us aware they don’t carry malpractice liability insurance.
Interestingly, you can’t sue vaccine manufacturers either.
