Indeed. There are many many couples ready and willing to adopt a baby - even one with special needs or that looks very different from them. Tax incentives aren’t needed.steve-in-kville wrote: ↑Tue Sep 21, 2021 6:18 am "Increasing tax incentives for adoption"... for the mother or for who is adopting the baby?

True. Depending on the moral and ethical background, its a lot less shameless (and low profile) to get an abortion than to carry to full term and hand the baby over to adoption. Sadly, that is the mainstream culture we live in.Josh wrote: ↑Tue Sep 21, 2021 9:50 amIndeed. My first response to “tax incentives” was positive.
However, i quickly thought of what is happening with renting wombs. The temptation to exploit women in poverty.
The temptation of women, even not in poverty, to allow themselves to be exploited.
i think adoption is over-used as a distraction in the abortion debate.
i.e., because there are existing CHOICES for PREVENTION, in the event fornication+abortion were NOT legal+promoted,
i have a hunch LOADS of folks will figure out pretty quickly “the mystery” of how to prevent conception.
i’m not convinced there would be a glut of unwanted pregnancies. i know this is a FAVORITE argument.
the mainstream seems to be in the business of grooming people to be dumb. DUMB. they’re really good at it.

there are now so many people choosing not to procreate, maintaining populations is a a real problem.
think of it. people really can figure out how to avoid unwanted conception.

Re: Reducing abortions
Because it represents failure. It is a symptom of our failure to do effective family planning and prevent unwanted pregnancies in the first place. And a symptom of our failure to support women who do still get pregnant and see no hope to raise a child on their own due to things like the ruinous cost of child care, food, housing, healthcare, education, etc. etc.
I do think there are instances when it is warranted for health and safety reasons, and for egregious circumstances like rape and incest/abuse of young children. But otherwise it represents failure.

Re: Reducing abortions
Some former co-workers of ours (also Bible translators) adopted a young girl (14 at the time, I think) who had a 2 year old son. Her mother had prostituted her. So they got a daughter AND a grandson all at once. They are giving this young woman a chance to be (in some ways, at least) what she really is, a child. But the point I wanted to make is that she loves her son very much, in spite of the fact that she very likely has no idea who the father is, and yes, it amounted to rape - the worst kind of rape, because her own mother put her in that position, for money. That's betrayal by someone who is SUPPOSED to be a protector.

She is very lucky. There are lots of 14 year old girls with babies in Latin America with similar stories who are homeless and begging on the street.Neto wrote: ↑Tue Sep 21, 2021 7:09 pm Some former co-workers of ours (also Bible translators) adopted a young girl (14 at the time, I think) who had a 2 year old son. In fact it IS in South America. Argentina. She was taken from her mother (by the government) and placed in a holding home for abused and abandoned children. A girl my children grew up with in Brazil was working there, and got to know this girl. It was her parents who adopted her, who are also Argentine.Ken wrote: ↑Tue Sep 21, 2021 7:33 pmShe is very lucky. I was assuming Brazil. But yes. I have friends who work at similar institutions in Guatemala. Where they have orphanages where two generations of children reside under similar circumstances. And they are considered the lucky ones.Neto wrote: ↑Tue Sep 21, 2021 8:11 pmIn fact it IS in South America. Argentina. Are you suggesting it would be better to murder the "unlucky" ones?Ken wrote: ↑Tue Sep 21, 2021 8:23 pmI was assuming Brazil. But yes. I have friends who work at similar institutions in Guatemala.
