There are literally tens of thousands of medical studies conducted and published every year. I'm frankly not really that interested in doing a deep-dive into any of them, whether for diabetes, hepatitis, hypertension, or Covid. I don't have Covid, no one in my family has Covid, we are all vaccinated. I'm not particularly worried about it but if any of us did come down with Covid I would actually trust the expert medical professionals in our system who have been battling this disease non-stop 24/7 for the past 18+ months.GaryK wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 3:40 pmI used the website to get to the actual peer reviewed studies. It seems to me that if they are interested in clandestine secrecy they have done a very poor job in keeping the actual studies secret. Do you care to respond to some of the actual studies? BTW, I just posted another review I found by searching on the nih.gov site. Do you care to respond to that review?

Re: Coronavirus Outbreak
So here is and example of why I am skeptical of the whole Ivermectin fad on Facebook.
This is the part-time Mayor of Lake Ozark, MO. He has no medical qualifications. I googled him and he is a real estate agent in real life. He posted this recently on Facebook about his close friend who, based on the odds, is 95% likely to be unvaccinated.

So this part-time mayor and realtor, based on material he found on Facebook is going to try to smuggle Ivermectin he found someplace, maybe Tractor Supply, into the hospital for his friend because he presumably knows better than that medical team at that hospital who have been literally fighting Covid 24/7 for the past 18 months without a break. He is going to "step in and assist." Does he not think they are constantly searching for the best therapies? Does he not think they don't discuss every therapy during their morning grand rounds? Does he not think they are tied into professional networks that are constantly searching for the best therapies for every disease that they face?
Here is another example. This is a "holistic" nurse practitioner promoting her own custom Ivermectin cocktail on Facebook that she used on her own unvaccinated husband:

CI02 is Chlorine Dioxide, a.k.a., bleach. NAC is N Acetyl Cysteine, used for Tylenol poisoning and supposedly as a cough suppressant. Here’s another part of her URL text extremely long Facebook post about her husband, who has a 50 year history of smoking.
The actual problem with all of this is that medicine has a tremendously powerful built-in confirmation bias which any doctor can tell you. What do I mean by that? Simply stated, most sick people eventually get better no matter what you do for them. Very few people actually die of infectious diseases unless they are rare deadly things like rabies or tetanus. So, for example, you can give most people anything from chicken soup to orange juice to hot whisky for a cold and they will all get better regardless. Pediatricians especially know this. Most every sick child that presents in your office will soon get better not matter what you prescribe or don't prescribe.
So all these stories of home-brewed Covid cures are anecdotal nonsense. Unless you are 80 years old with co-morbidities, you have a 99% chance of surviving Covid no matter what you do.

Okay.....His oxygen saturation would not rise above 83-87, even on 4 liters of O2 […] So I took him to the ER to be assessed and get hydrated. He tested positive for covid and they wanted to admit him.
At first we said no…we were more afraid of the insanity of big pharma system there and what mistakes they would make.

Why the sudden disinterest in this after basically labeling "you guys" who are interested in Ivermectin as YouTube conspiracy theorists? I present some pretty compelling evidence and suddenly you want to drop it.Ken wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 4:14 pmThere are literally tens of thousands of medical studies conducted and published every year. Re: Coronavirus Outbreak
I'm only interested to the extent that it has become a bizarre cultural phenomenon where we literally have thousands of people who literally disregard every bit of modern medical advice regarding prevention of Covid and then rush to the feed and seed to get horse deworming medicine based on something they read on Facebook when they or someone in their family does inevitably get sick.GaryK wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 4:57 pmWhy the sudden disinterest in this after basically labeling "you guys" who are interested in Ivermectin as YouTube conspiracy theorists? Re: Coronavirus Outbreak
That wasn't a post directly specifically at you. Just a general comment on this bizarre cultural phenomenon where people ignore every bit of modern medical advice on a subject for.....REASONS. And then when something goes wrong, rush to rely on anonymous and unvetted information from social media instead.

Do you have an opinion on whether Ivermectin works as a prophylaxis or a therapy for Covid? If so, what is your opinion based on?Ken wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 5:07 pmI'm only interested to the extent that it has become a bizarre cultural phenomenon where we literally have thousands of people who literally disregard every bit of modern medical advice regarding prevention of Covid and then rush to the feed and seed to get horse deworming medicine based on something they read on Facebook when they or someone in their family does inevitably get sick.GaryK wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 4:57 pmWhy the sudden disinterest in this after basically labeling "you guys" who are interested in Ivermectin as YouTube conspiracy theorists? Re: Coronavirus Outbreak
No more than any other therapy of which there are dozens. I’m happy to acknowledge there are studies out there supporting Ivermectin. That’s not really the point. There are studies supporting all manner of current therapies from monoclonal antibodies to Tylenol. I am not remotely experienced enough to know which particular suite of therapies will produce the best outcomes at each stage of the disease should anyone within my circle comes down with Covid. That’s why we have hospitals with infectious disease specialists who have spent their entire lives devoted to this subject.GaryK wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 5:16 pmDo you have an opinion on whether Ivermectin works as a prophylaxis or a therapy for Covid? Based on the odds, the Mayor is 95% unlikely to be either Catholic or a football fan.

The point is that around 95% of hospitalized Covid patients in MO are unvaccinated.ohio jones wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 6:06 pmBased on the odds, the Mayor is 95% unlikely to be either Catholic or a football fan.
