Literacy Rates of High School Graduates

Things that are not part of politics happening presently and how we approach or address it as Anabaptists.

There are multiple reasons why Ken and I are both saying there were no black only classrooms. We’ve explained those reasons. But you have yet to explain it would make sense that the mother didn’t realize this was happening until she asked for a specific teacher. It would be clear to any idiot that the classes were segregated if they were black only. And only one of the news articles words it in a way that would mean it was an all black class.
I edited my previous post to include what The Hill published.
Kila Posey, who is Black, said she learned that Principal Sharyn Briscoe of Mary Lin Elementary School was separating the school's 12 Black second graders from their classmates last year.
https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watc ... segregated

How can you have mixed classrooms if the school's 12 black second graders were separated from their classmates last year?

We may just have to agree to disagree.
You are fixated on the wording chosen by one reporter who apparently only spoke to the woman making the complaint. Wording that is both inconsistent with other reporting on the incident, and doesn't appear to even mean what you say it means. If her claim is true, what she is actually claiming is that the 12 black students in the 2nd grade were being separated into two classes in which they were still the minority (with a majority of white students) but at least not the only black child in the class.
I literally just provided another report by The Hill that says the complaint was that the black students were separated from their classmates and you are claiming I'm fixated on one reporter. I can provide more if you would like. And how do you know the reporter you mention above spoke only to the woman making the complaint? Your ability to know things like this is quite something.

It will both be more challenging and rewarding than you expect! So many of these kids need a stable adult in their lives. For some, you will be the only one.

Don't listen to the naysayers. You are doing God's work.
Thank you. I'm not too worried about the naysayers here. What they're describing bears very little resemblance to what I experience in real life.

I feel God has called me into this. This next year will be a testing of that call.

“Meanwhile, people in the community are asking whether we are teaching Critical Race Theory, which is a load of nonsense.”

Then you should be able to tell them “No, and we commit to you that we will not teach it.”

Do you plan to promote CRT ideas in your classroom like you do here on MennoNet?

Given your posting history here, perhaps parents have good reason to be concerned.
I don't let strangers on the Internet dictate to me what I teach in my classroom.
In other words, you will be teaching CRT in your classroom.

Yes or no? I don’t want to put words in your mouth.

Do you think it will function better than the last call to the ministry you though God called you to?

 the same thing thousands of 18 year old plain Anabaptist girls are also doing.

"Nervous and terrified". It's teaching school, not evacuating Saigon. :-|

Glad you pointed this out. i didn’t realize. i smile to know, tho. :D
In fact, the U.S. owes a big debt of gratitude to the many 16 to 18 year olds who taught in schools, my dear mother in law began at 16. Most people today could not imagine such a thing.

Like it or not, a powerful country was built on it.
Many effective leaders, of all description, began just this way, on the shoulders of teen teachers.

When my grdaughter began learning whatever it is they call arithmetic/math these days in public school, she was told NOT to learn from her family members, grandparents!! i was surprised. just one more way of eroding traditional families, it’s not all about sex ed.

i told her, and her mother, who was also in disbelief, this country was literally built on “old math,” it deserves respect.

i assured the child, it’s good to know more than 1 way to skin a cat.

Today, the ed system has failed so badly, the ed system has decided the only way it can continue to function (i.e., receive gov funding) is to replace testing/accountability with participation certificates - the next step, in process, participation will not be required.

No matter results, gov funding will increase. Teachers unions and their chosen career politicians will see to that.

i would have been excited for my grdaughter to be in one of these schools. it probably would have been incredible.
forget the world’s mania. focus on the subject at hand. pass tests.

how refreshing.

Sdzfan- I pray you have a good year teaching. It sounds like you have made a career change. A friend from church went to college in her late 30s to 40 and began teaching in her 40s. She died of Covid this year but from all I had heard before and then from many testimonies at her service- she had such a lasting influence on her students. They knew she loved them and that she cared and yet they also knew they could not get away with any nonsense. She was strict but loved them and was there for them. Being single did help her in that she could go to games of most of her students - middle school is what she taught but she also went to some high school games. She had tutoring in the morning most days and students from her classes and other classes came and were welcome. Interestingly we were in small group with a gentleman who said if he taught his classroom would have chains and handcuffs and paddles evident as that is the way you need to deal with all the hooligans that are students today. She just said, she stood in the hallway, spoke to students about their lives, if they were running or doing other things not allowed, she called them out on it but her philosophy was to love them and show it in her actions and her teaching and being there for them.
may you be able to show God's love to your students and may He give you the love and patience and creativity to reach out to your students in a way that works . Not an easy job these days but there are many students in our public schools who do not know what love it and for those the Lord is leading to do teach there I applaud and say may these students see the Lord in your lives.

Amen.
God works in mysterious ways. His will, not ours.
Sometimes earthly institutions are shuttered.

i was new to MD when jeremy graduated and excitedly moved his family to Colorado. i had similar enthusiasm and hope for him then.
may we always have similar wishes for God’s Word to be shared and known. esp in places where it’s forbidden.

not always immediately recognized, God uses all for His higher purposes.

QL,
i’m sorry for the loss of your friend. i’m sure many are sad she is no longer in service on earth.
