Indeed and amen. If you do a search of this forum with the word “cults”, there are several good discussions about the warning signs that a group is a cult. The group does not have to be a religious one either. Cults can emerge in any organization or venue.Josh wrote: ↑Sun Jul 18, 2021 5:27 pmYou may be disappointed to find that similar things exist outside of CM life, and outside of Christian life as well.ABC 123 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 16, 2021 3:19 pm I am not privy to the several incidents referred to in the last couple post. Probably similar to the ones I do have knowledge of.
Had I known so much of this back when I was shown the shined up side of CM-ism, I might've canceled my subscription to this CM life at the very beginning.

I agree. When a minister seems to be focused on women's dress and that they aren't modest enough, for me the red flags go up. We sat under a minister years ago, that seemed to preach alot about women's dyed hair. I wasn't sure where that came from.steve-in-kville wrote: ↑Thu Jul 22, 2021 9:59 am
I've sat under the preaching over the years of ministers that seemed to have a "hang up" on certain topics. And its usually some hidden issue they struggle with themselves. And its typically sexual in nature, sadly.

The one in particular... no matter what the sermon title was... no matter the background scripture.... it always came around to challenging the wives to keep their husbands "satisfied" or else they stray. And yes, he also had some doozies on the young ladies being held accountable for causing men to become lustful.

I went to an ultra conservative Beachy church that once evacuated the church Sunday School of all unmarried people the day 1 Corinthians 7 was studied.steve-in-kville wrote: ↑Thu Jul 22, 2021 12:04 pmThe one in particular... no matter what the sermon title was... no matter the background scripture.... it always came around to challenging the wives to keep their husbands "satisfied" or else they stray. The lesson was not nearly as juicy as expected.

Preach on modest dress and give specifics and you either are a judgmental person or a sex offender... That's a problem. Why do ministers feel threatened to address fence riding? this is why.Grace wrote: ↑Thu Jul 22, 2021 11:41 amI agree. I have only ever heard or seen a sermon reading the standards. Too dangerous for them otherwise...

Many people who run those sites start them because they have already been mocked and critiqued repeatedly to the point that they have made these sites.mike wrote: ↑Wed Jul 21, 2021 3:53 pm Here's another thing about the folks who run dirty laundry websites. Are they OK with having a bit of mockery and critique directed at them as well? Is it OK to critique the criticizers? Sometimes that doesn't feel safe; as if they are the only ones certified for the role of a cynic.

I think in a lot of situations, people who run such sites are not in it to "get back" at an offender, but much rather want their story told the right way so healing can begin. That's my take anyway.KrisKramer wrote: ↑Fri Jul 23, 2021 10:17 am

That’s... odd. I have yet to hear that one ever preached from the pulpit.steve-in-kville wrote: ↑Thu Jul 22, 2021 12:04 pmThe one in particular... no matter what the sermon title was... no matter the background scripture.... it always came around to challenging the wives to keep their husbands "satisfied" or else they stray.

I just today became aware of this FB site and frankly I did not find the posts funny. Rather I found them very disturbing. Particularly the recent post where Cory Anderson was quoted on what he felt different positions reflected. I have very seldom been that angry in my life as I was after reading that. If that is the type of thinking that is being propagated in CM circles then perhaps a bit of sarcasm is needed to wake us up. There is nothing funny about that. It literally IMO shows the workings of a reprobate mind, I am sorry. It just really made me angry.
This stuff needs to be spoken out against. I would prefer it is done in a serious way and yes I would prefer if there was less mocking on the site. But arrrgh…. Sorry I am just furious right now, God help us all.
