VP PENCE to Lead Coronavirus Task Force

“Remarks by President Trump, Vice President Pence, and Members of the
Coronavirus Task Force in Press Conference” / WWW.WHITEHOUSE.GOV
HEALTHCARE
Issued on: February 27, 2020

https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefings-st ... onference/

The hope for this thread is to attempt to follow VP Pence as he leads the CORONAVIRUS TASK FORCE.
VP Pence enjoys a lot of respect as VPOTUS, but has also taken criticism. i believe he has handled it well, not lowering himself into media circus, or detracting from the office he serves.

We may see more of VP Pence and what he’s all about. i’m hopeful.

i’m surprised at how lengthy the “Remarks” in the above link are.
President Trump does not seem to use a teleprompter. i’m not sure how much he reads/refers to notes when he speaks.

President Trump describes some about why he appointed VP Pence to this role, and how Pence and Secretary Azar will work together, and why. He covers a lot of ground.

i’m happy the label, “Czar” will not be used.
Other U.S. presidents have used it for a few appointed roles. (i don’t care for it.)

“Pence tells Limbaugh he believes Indiana work on HIV, MERS
part of reason Trump tapped him on coronavirus”

https://thehill.com/homenews/administra ... rs-part-of
Vice President Pence told conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh he believes President Trump tapped him to lead the coronavirus task force because of his experience tackling disease outbreaks at the state level as governor of Indiana.

Pence touted his experience combating HIV, Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) during his time in state government.

“I think it might be the main reason why President Trump asked me to do this,” Pence told Limbaugh. “I think by putting me over the administration’s response to the coronavirus, the president wanted to signal the priority that he’s placed on this.”

Trump announced Pence’s new role at a rare press conference in the White House briefing room Wednesday. Pence's appointment was criticized by several Democrats, including Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who brought up the former governor's troubling record combating HIV.

Pence told Limbaugh that the most effective way to combat the spread of disease is at the state level.

“But he talked to me about my practical experience as a governor, because a lot of people are aware the CDC is involved, HHS is involved, Homeland Security is involved,
and we’ve managed the quarantines,” Pence said.
“But honestly, what I learned as governor, it’s your state health department, it’s your local health care providers that are at the tip of the spear in the spread of infectious disease.”
i expect this appointment to be interesting. i hope it will be efficient!

i am sorry to see VP Pence immediately attacked, only to see the primary underlying motivation is due to Pence’s unwillingness to 100% align with (extreme) homosexual activists. Every sort of bluster thrown out there, then it all boils down to Pence’s respect for traditional marriage.

This should be a non-issue regarding oversight of a potentially deadly worldwide pandemic.

This pattern of destructive behavior has become well-known and predictable. In the U.S., and abroad. For these activists, no matter is more important than their specific agenda.
What a tragic place to exist.

Hopefully, this thread will track Pence, Azar, and the Coronavirus Task Force.

”Pence Announces White House Coordinator for Coronavirus Response”
https://www.nationalreview.com/news/pen ... -response/
Vice President Mike Pence has appointed the administration’s top AIDS official as head coordinator in tackling the coronavirus in the U.S., the White House said Thursday.

Ambassador Debbie Birx will serve as “White House Coronavirus Response Coordinator” and report to Pence as well as join the task force formed to combat the epidemic under Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar.

Birx, a career public health official, is currently in charge of the U.S. effort to battle AIDS across the globe and is responsible for the $6 billion the U.S. has earmarked for HIV and AIDS treatment and prevention programs in 65 countries. She was nominated to that position by former President Barack Obama in 2014 and also serves as U.S. Special Representative for Global Health Diplomacy.

“She has deep experience in coordinating across agencies,” the White House said in a statement. “She has worked from the research bench to the clinic, but understands the primary focus must always be to reach the individuals most in need.”

President Trump announced Wednesday that Pence will be in charge of the administration’s coronavirus response. ..

Rats. I would have enjoyed exploiting the linguistic possibilities inherent in a Czar Azar.

“Medical Professor Praises Trump Admin for Coronavirus Response:
'I've Never Seen One Handled Better' “

https://www.westernjournal.com/medical- ... ed-better/
A medical expert is praising the Trump administration for its response to the coronavirus,
while slamming the news media for its actions.

“I’ve been handling these emerging contagions for about 20 years now, and I have to tell you, I’ve never seen one handled better,” Dr. Marc Siegel said regarding the actions of President Donald Trump since the coronavirus first emerged as a concern in January.

Siegel is a professor of medicine at New York University, a medical correspondent for Fox News, and the author of “False Alarm: The Truth About the Epidemic of Fear.”

Asked on SiriusXM’s “Breitbart News Sunday” about how the news media has handled the outbreak,
he said, “They’re certainly not helping because they’re hyping, and the hyping leads to hysteria.”

 Siegel said the Trump administration’s
coronavirus task force brings together the right people.

“The task force are really top players,” said Siegel, noting the inclusion of Dr. Anthony Fauci,
director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
Fauci is “one of the top infectious disease experts in the country,” he noted.

“They’ve been doing exactly what they’re supposed to be doing,” he said, listing actions Trump has called for such as “restricting travel, isolating patients who are sick and, trying to cut down on contact. It’s a very hard thing to do when people are pouring in from all over the world.”

CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield, a virologist, and Dr. Nancy Messonnier, an expert in vaccines who has been sounding the alarm about the virus, are also important members, he said, though he believes the “doom and gloom comment” about the inevitable spread of the virus was uncalled for.

Siegel said that the coronavirus is different from diseases such as SARS or the flu.

“SARS had about a ten percent mortality [rate], but it only affected about 8,000 people.
Swine flu had a very, very low mortality for flu, but flu itself really only causes about a point-four percent death rate, and [coronavirus] is about one-point-four percent.
So this is killing more than flu, but I want to make a couple of points that will reassure people,”
he said.

“One, at the beginning of an emerging contagion, it always appears more deadly than it actually is.
The 1918 flu is an exception, but normally as time goes on, it’s less deadly, and part of that is because  you see more immunity appearing, and you also find a lot of milder cases — or even cases where people don’t get sick at all. You find that as you start to test more people,” he said.

 He also noted that people who were infected but never got sick do not show up in statistics, making the virus seem more deadly than it is.
This report does not surprise me.
i wanted to add it here because the majority of reports (i’ve seen)
are focused on criticizing, making sport of, VP Pence praying with the Task Force. :-|

i’m not overly bothered by criticism of prayer.
(my takeaway) from such criticism is, IF criticizers were authentically convinced there is no strength in prayer, they would ignore it, it would be “nothing.” (they do NOT ignore it.)

they know prayer IS something. fighting it is proof. they are intimidated by what they don’t know.
Jesus Christ faced identical problems, it must be expected. they are correct. prayer is powerful.

Found in comments elsewhere: (unverified)
“Remember when Obama was President and 61 million people got the Swine Flu
and 13,000 people died?”
.. praying.

i recall this as “a moment” of hope for nonpartisan response to this pandemic (in a presidential election year).

a fleeting moment.

I think "operation Warp Speed" should be considered a real success for this taskforce...and we are now, over a year later, reaping the benefits of their vaccine collaboration.

i think that’s a good way of looking at it.

Dec 2020 / NBC / “Biden receives Covid-19 vaccine, praises Trump's 'Operation Warp Speed' “
https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/white- ... a-n1251890

But the overall partisan haggling was heavy then, as it continues, reflected in these headlines:
https://www.google.com/search?q=biden+c ... e&ie=UTF-8

If i recall, before the noisy internet, when big disasters happened, there was at least temporary nonpartisan effort in Congress to attempt to work for the overall good. Not that they always made good decisions! Esp regarding the MIC. :-|

But there seemed to be more respect for presidents faced with epic disasters, and more effort at acting for the greater good.
The internet seems to effectively strip all that away.
