"We all quit"

Things that are not part of politics happening presently and how we approach or address it as Anabaptists.

In your opinion, were these workers justified in using the sign to announce their resignation?

My current employer typically will wait until the end of the day to walk you out, provided the employee is not a threat. As far as employees giving two-weeks notice - rarely happens. If they are relatively new, they just stop showing up. Some take a week's vacation and not come back.

Yes, if the employer and managers had treated their employees in a more Christian manner I doubt this story would have been in the news.
Exactly.
Regarding this not being Christian behavior. I agree but there is nothing said here regarding any of these people involved as professing Christians. The unsaved world cannot be expected to act as born again Christians are to act. And this, imo, can be a problem for Christians if we judge whether or not non-Christians are acting as Christians should.

We are in a world where Satan is the ruler according to scripture. Many things are happening under his influence and God allows it for the time being. We are not of this world as Christ followers. Our mission here is the same regardless of what the unsaved world is doing and that is being ambassadors of a world apart from the world we live in. That leads me to believe whatever the world is doing in it's ways should not concern us. But it does, in politics, what the media uses to run it's business and various other things of this world. And as long as we are captivated by the world's ways, the less we will see ourselves as strangers here and the less we will focus on sharing a Kingdom way of life.

I think satan's main tool to make us ineffective at growing the Kingdom is to get our attention on things of this world and judging the actions of those in other kingdoms. Another tool he uses is getting us to debate things amongst believers that also do nothing to grow the Kingdom.

These are some thoughts that will not be shared by other believers and I'm preaching to myself as well as others as I observe where our interests and concerns show up. Seems to me 'come out from among them and be ye separate' has a very limited, and sometimes mis-understood application. YMMV.

Are you suggesting that God has a different standard of right an wrong for Christians vs. non-Christians?

No. Just that according to 1 cor 5:12 we are not to judge those outside the church - AMP
For what business is it of mine to judge outsiders (non-believers)? Do you not judge those who are within the church [to protect the church as the situation requires]? God alone sits in judgment on those who are outside [the faith]. REMOVE THE WICKED ONE FROM AMONG YOU [expel him from your church].
We do read where Peter in Acts 3 told the unsaved crowd how they had acted in ignorance in their treatment of Jesus but that was a sermon to draw them into repentance and it worked. This is quite different than judging unbelievers sinful actions without a call to them to repent, imo.

The local church has quite a challenge just to judge rightly within it's walls in dealing with sin amongst believers. Whether or not a non-Christian acts more right than another non-Christian does not change the fact that they are both unsaved.

I think there is an enormous difference between wage labor and professional positions.

In a professional job if you are let go they may well terminate you on the spot (or the end of the day) but will possibly give you some severance pay of 2 weeks or more. And people quitting professional positions often give much longer than 2 weeks notice. In education, for example, most of the school districts that I have worked for generally ask that those teachers not planning to return for the next school year give their notice by Feb or March and often give a bonus of $500 or $1000 if you give your notice by say March 1st. That way they can begin the hiring process in the spring for the teachers they will need for the upcoming fall. Teachers can and do still turn in their notice at the last minute before the start of the school year but it is pretty unusual, especially if you want a glowing recommendation from your previous school.

It’s becoming common (at least in my field) to immediately terminate anyone who turns a 2 weeks’ notice in.

Employees have responded by maximising use of sick time (dentist visits, or take 2 weeks’ off if you have a cold / cough, which is 100% legal) and vacation time before quitting. Use up all your vacation across holiday weekends, get doctor and dentist visits out of the way, accrue more vacation, and then quit.

It would be great if some day employers decided to quit viewing employees as their enemy, and thinking it’s OK to try to destroy the lives of people they don’t want to work for them anymore.

and, vice versa.
Jesus offered His alternative. it starts with one decision, no matter employer or employee, slave owner or slave.

I see that too. I imagine the reasons for that, are supposed to be something like not wanting to pay for distracted unmotivated performance; or perhaps in certain jobs they are concerned about the person recruiting other employees or their customers; or taking company data. Which is all pretty weak fears if you ask me. All these things can be done before giving notice. I don’t understand it. It seems to me as a lashing out in revenge move by the company, more than anything else.

It’s being ridiculously risk averse, as if someone is a risk once they quit.

It’s been a while since anyone I work with put in a genuine two week notice. They’ve all gone on vacations during their notice, or simply quit immediately.

It’s sad.
In the past, i spent time helping train my replacement, helping to set things up so there would be a smooth transition.
There are heart issues on all sides.

But, again, Jesus offers His way to all, no matter employer or employee. “rise above.”
