The criticism is that the illustrators (calling them "artists" is a bit of a stretch) draw clothes, rather than drawing people wearing clothes. And if the culture focuses more on clothes than people, seeing that reflected in the illustrations should not be a surprise.
I had to read that ten times but I get your point. I remember those "illustrations." Mom in her perfect cape dress and headcovering. Dad was always in a tidy plain suit and the "mennonite cut" hair.

I don't like regulation haircuts. If I have to do that, I'd much rather have it how I did in the Navy. It lasted a long time as a civilian and I liked the cut. Its hair... seriously... what they use on it has more significance to me... So much gel and other random stuff for hair. Vanity.

As for the illustrators... Its quite misleading for outsiders who get the impression that all these books or pamphlets have opaque coverings.

Or all the adults are slim and good looking and the children are all cute as a button.

Well... In my experience... most older men have quite a bit of flab. Sort of surprising given they are farmers, but who am I to criticize, I've got my own flab to fix.

It’s probably eating all those big meals at home 3x a day vs say an office worker who might bring a sandwich or apple or something and maybe just grabs a muffin or something in the morning heading out the door. Same reason why half the country put on lots of weight during the pandemic when everyone was staying home rather than working in the office.

For the sake of conversation, why did exercise equipment become so scarce last year? Treadmills, bicycles, dumbells, etc.

LOL...While we are on the subject of treadmills, this thread sure has gone off the subject track.

In answer to your question, could it be the supply of those items couldn't meet the demand. People weren't going to the gym because of Covid, so they went out and bought their own equipment.

At one point in history, going to offices to work notably caused weight gain, less physical fitness, due to the relative sedentary nature of office work versus home, farm, factory work, other types of more physical work.

Going to college often results in gaining the “Freshman 15” pounds.

i’m not sure there was an earlier time when so many healthy people were told to stay home, not work, not go to school, AND be paid and fed to do so.

True. I guess if you were a gym rat at heart, that would be the natural response.
