I'm not familiar with his sentencing but I would imagine there will be extensive parole stipulations, on top of limits of contact he can have with children, unfortunately, even his own.

But as I said, I'm not that familiar with his case.

I see. My answer would most likely stay the same on the legal end of it.

As far as the rest... I'm sure it would be most awkward for all involved.

I’m sorry, could you elaborate on this a little more? Is this the prayer card you referenced above?

In fairness, this is one congregation which, at this point, finds itself in little fellowship with many of the plain people around them.
So not a whole of of trading pulpits takes place?
They do with their sympathisers.. I wish I could find a list of who exactly those people are.

A few notes:

The wife’s dad was concerned about J. Mast’s prior “problems” and delayed things six months. Apparently it was known about and they got married anyway.

I’m not saying that the wife is somehow at fault, but that’s kind of a big deal to know something like that.

Recommitting marriage vows is absurd. Either first ones were good enough, or they weren’t. It is absurd to demand recommitting marriage vows - unless they would tolerate a divorce and remarriage!

The churches involved seemed more concerned with the “integrity of marriage” than with dozens or hundreds of boys being molested. This isn’t right, and makes a mockery of claiming not to believe in D&R. I would feel confident saying God is less pleased with people who don’t D&R, but do molest, than people who are divorced and remarried but manage not to commit all manner of extreme immoral wickedness.

That theory is worthy of discussion. I never heard of renewing wedding vows in a conservative group before.

I find myself agreeing with Josh here.

To further expand on what he is saying, I would argue that by trying to provide the outward appearance of a committed marriage through this "recommitment of marriage vows", the Church is actually aiding and abetting the criminal career of a serial pedophile. If, for example, this stunt had been successful in convincing the court to treat JM with leniency in his trial and sentencing, and then he used that opportunity to continue to reoffend. What culpability would that church have had in his future crimes?

If recommitment ceremonies is something this church does for all married couples every 10 or 20 years that is one thing. If it is only something they whip up when one of their members is facing criminal prosecution for crimes related to marital infidelity that is another thing entirely.

Neither had I. This is fairly common in other Christian circles, tho.
