The Mormons would say that Jesus was saying you have to be married on earth and that there is no "Marriage" in heaven but there are marriages. No joke...

What on earth does that have to do with anything (besides you having a line of reasoning like the Sadducees)? In heaven, people don't engage in commerce. There is no need for businesses, or profit-making activities.Ken wrote: ↑Mon May 17, 2021 11:46 amOK, let's continue with the thought experiment. Say your spouse dies and you as a widow or widower decide to remarry. Which, to my knowledge is permissible in the vast majority of Christian denominations, including I believe yours. When you get to heaven will you then become a polygamist and have two spouses, your first one and your second one? Does the first spouse have a say in the matter? What about the second spouse? What happens if two widows marry? Do we end up with a 4-party marriage? How does the temporal institution of marriage on earth translate to eternal life in heaven? Does the marriage itself have a soul independent of the in individuals involved? If you dissolve a marriage (or a business) are you killing a soul?
The point remains. If one Christian person by himself runs a business, no employees, no partners, is it not reasonable to say he has a "Christian business"?

It is just as reasonable as saying that a Christian shepherd has Christian sheep, or a Christian carpenter has Christian lumber, or a Christian fisherman has Christian fish.Josh wrote: ↑Mon May 17, 2021 12:10 pmWhat on earth does that have to do with anything (besides you having a line of reasoning like the Sadducees)? There are various scriptures that assure that earth is NOT heaven.RZehr wrote: ↑Mon May 17, 2021 12:02 pm Luke 20:37-36 (& Matthew 22) answers the marriage question:So no, there is no marriage in heaven. The marriage does not have a soul, does not exist beyond earth. Sorry Mormons. Then came to him certain of the Sadducees, which deny that there is any resurrection; and they asked him,
Saying, Master, Moses wrote unto us, If any man's brother die, having a wife, and he die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
There were therefore seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and died without children.
And the second took her to wife, and he died childless.
And the third took her; and in like manner the seven also: and they left no children, and died.
Last of all the woman died also.
Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them is she? for seven had her to wife.
And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage:
But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage:
Neither can they die any more:
for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.![]()
Government policies cannot create heaven on earth, or anything like it. Sad so many ignorantly strive for the impossibility.

That is one of the less crazy things that Mormons believe.

1. John 10:11 "I am the good Shepherd; the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. Sheep = people with souls.
2. Tough one. Matthew 16:18b I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Or I suppose the lumber in Matthew 7:3-5, as part of the persons body, might be considered to be part of him?
Or maybe this reference is more applicable to this thread in general? "And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brothers eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
3. Mathew 4:19 " And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." Fish = people with souls.

Re: What makes a Christian company?
A company is simply a collection of inanimate objects and contracts that has an owner. or owners, and is just a vehicle for making money and limiting liability. It can go bankrupt, be dissolved, merged, sold, or split. How is that different from any other type of possession or means of making money?ohio jones wrote: ↑Mon May 17, 2021 1:38 pmWe have a winner for today's Most Tortured Analogy award.
Again, I stand by my contention that only people can be Christian. Their possessions, whether they be companies, sheep, wood, or fish, cannot.

For starters, it's would be extremely unusual for a truck, for instance, to face charges in court for negligence, while not particularly unusual for a company to face such charges.Ken wrote: ↑Mon May 17, 2021 1:49 pmA company is simply a collection of inanimate objects and contracts that has an owner. or owners, and is just a vehicle for making money and limiting liability. Re: What makes a Christian company?
Sure. And you can purchase and sell those liabilities. If you buy a 100-year-old factory or property you may find yourself liable for pollution that occurred 75 years ago by an entirely different company operating on that site. Likewise, you can sell or dissolve into bankruptcy a company that has liabilities or that faces charges. Corporate law is complicated. None of that makes the company in question "Christian"ken_sylvania wrote: ↑Mon May 17, 2021 1:55 pmFor starters, it's would be extremely unusual for a truck, for instance, to face charges in court for negligence, while not particularly unusual for a company to face such charges.Ken wrote: ↑Mon May 17, 2021 1:49 pmA company is simply a collection of inanimate objects and contracts that has an owner. or owners, and is just a vehicle for making money and limiting liability.
