I'm not sure I'd go quite that far. It's under attack. But so are businesses who refuse to follow the "rules." It's control in general. The pastor isn't the only person that was arrested this weekend. And I think in Alberta you're going to see more and more business owners who open up their businesses and face arrest. I think you're going to see major push back in Alberta really soon.

Why not a little basic fact-checking?

Mosque, synagogue leaders in Alberta call on GraceLife Church to follow COVID-19 rules
Leaders with a mosque and a synagogue in Edmonton have a message for an area Christian church that has been routinely holding services that violate COVID-19 restrictions.

While they sympathize with GraceLife Church’s desire to bring worshippers together, they are asking its pastor and congregants to trust Alberta’s public-health rules.

“I would encourage (GraceLife) to just consider, contemplate and reflect upon what God would want them to do in terms of caring for others, especially vulnerable Albertans,” says Jamal Osman, vice-president of the Muslim Community of Edmonton Mosque.
Before the pandemic, up to 300 Muslims squeezed into the mosque for a service every Friday, which is a sacred day of worship in Islam, Osman says.

Muslims typically pray standing shoulder-to-shoulder, he adds. Letting go of years of communal practice was difficult when COVID-19 hit, but the community understood.

“It’s not our place to agree or disagree with another faith group and what they choose to do. I would just encourage (GraceLife) to consider the health and safety of everybody else.”

Zolly Claman, a rabbi at Edmonton’s Beth Israel Synagogue, lost his father-in-law to the virus early in the pandemic.

He says gathering is of the utmost importance in Judaism, and it’s a struggle to keep up with religious practice while working within public-health guidelines. It could be that is what they are calling Grace life to do, but the pictures of mosque parking lots appear to be telling a different story.

Is this really about a virus with a 99.9% survival rate?

I understand he was shut down because would not limit his church to a 15% occupancy rate. The GraceLife Church as also been attacked.
I would argue that it's equally in bad taste for a pastor to yell at officers and call them "nazi"etc, etc. Yes, churches should be open, as should all businesses. Even many non-religious people are saying so. But also, if you've got the law in your assembly, maybe be careful to watch your tone a little and maybe don't yell names at them.

The reporting I can find from reliable sources all seems to say mosques are affected the same as churches.

But I haven't spent lots of time looking, perhaps I am missing something. Can you tell me about these pictures? Are they from a reliable source? When were the pictures taken? Where? By whom?

I see being able to meet for church as far more important than businesses being able to be open.
I can cope with severe (even if unjustified) restrictions on the latter; but worshipping for church is a biblical command. We have a duty to “obey God rather than men”.

Of course the rules apply to all, at least on paper. No one is questioning that. The questions arise from the fact that it would appear the rules are enforced differently. Like I said, the pictures "appear" to tell a different story. I'm not there. They may somehow be operating quite within the confines of the law while having a bursting full parking lot. A friend of mine took pictures of a full parking lot at a mosque. Is he reliable? Not sure what criteria to use. They were taken less than 30 days ago. It was suspicious enough, tho, that health officials received several calls, and attended in person.

You can meet for church quite within the confines of the law in Alberta, if you choose to. You may not be able to have face to face conversations with all your friends, and that may defeat the purpose. I don't agree with the restrictions, but they wont jail you, at this point, for being a Christian any more than they would jail an atheist merely for his non-belief in God.

Part of being a Christian includes sharing the gospel and also fellowshipping with other believers - especially those who are not your own family & kin. This has become very hard to practice in Alberta.

I see a difference between "very hard" and "illegal." Edit: You did say "basically illegal" so there is that.

I wonder what the Plain Catholic parking lots campgrounds look like. 8-)
