The CAM scandal links and assorted other topics thread

Things that are not part of politics happening presently and how we approach or address it as Anabaptists.

A valid question for which I know no answer.
Canned as a school principle, then excommunicated by EPMC?

Wow. Guess all that was his wife's fault too?

This is beyond red flag territory. This is flashing neon sign, now.

Like Truthseeker mentioned, he prolly knew how to game the system. I've seen people do to get ordained already... be at the right place at the right time, saying all the right things.

When people hear what they want to hear, doors open. Especially if they feel a need for what is being offered. Opportunists take advantage.

When Mose Stoltzfus and others had the meeting with Harold Herr I was not asked to attend and voice anything. What victims were invited to attend? How is truth supposed to come when the victims aren't listened to? Charity knew of many allegations years ago but still they praised "Grandpa Harold" (as many in the church call him) and people like granny were called (by the church) crazy.
Is there ever going to be a real investigation? Or will it always be the church sweeping under the rug?

Nothing ever happens. When the CAM news broke, I thought maybe now..... but no.

Harold Herr has been allowed what 40? 50? Years of pedophilia and abuse

-Kris Kramer (grandchild of Harold Herr)

Welcome to MN, KrisKramer. :)

Sorry the topic is so painful.
Discussion is important if improvement is a serious goal.

Changing customs of centuries (not isolated to Anabaptists) requires sustained effort.

I was also quite hopeful. I remember when our local mennonite circles were establishing policies to deal with this more appropriately... unfortunately I see it fizzled away. I guess it depends who your daddy is that determines if action is taken.

Whether or not the finances of a church or organization are being touched can also be a factor.

Who was that here that said "the way to a mennonite's heart is through their wallet"?

The Conservative Anabaptists has it roots in Roman Catholicism. Parting ways with that system was a sincere desire to serve God faithfully. Unfortunately, with the passage of time, this culture has gone full circle. It is no secret that 'image', prestige and power trump holiness, humility and purity.

The scripture in II Peter 2:22 is playing out in 'real time'.
"But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire".

"God is not mocked" and is giving a 'shofar call' to these highly revered religious systems.
