Creating a thread on the subject does not further that goal.

Does this mean you deleted the thread? i do not object.

i thought of this, but wasn’t worried. the rate of threads fading/being ignored is HIGH.
i really had no idea what path this one might take, if it did not just immediately fade.

either way, it’s really not important. i’m not a successful journaler.

but i am interested in the 40 days. :)

According to the ancient Jewish historian Josephus, upwards of 100,000 Jewish soldiers and zealots were killed, 1.1 million non-combatants died in Jerusalem, 100,000 died in Galilee, and 97,000 were enslaved. Modern historians put the numbers somewhat lower. Roman casualties were around 10,000.
Seems like modern historians always put out lower numbers for historical biblical battles in particular. Why? Do modern historians just believe that the population or armies were much smaller? Do large armys and populations not fit some sort of narrative that they subscribe to? Are ancient peoples known for overstating these numbers?

Separate from the broader question, in this instance, should Josephus or should modern historians, be considered more credible?

Yup. Josh seems to think I live in a hole and have no contact with anyone outside my church.

I will say again “most likely”. These “theories “ seem to have blossomed under COVID. I will say no more, but I guess we will see if my concerns are unfounded. I hope they are.

Back in my grandfather's day, the misinformation circulating in rural America was mostly found in places like the Old Farmer's Almanac. And that was mostly tame harmless stuff like "Setting Eggs by the Moon's Sign" and other pseudoscientific stuff related to farming, astronomy, astrology, and the weather, and home herbal remedies for the "croup". My great grandfather created and marketed a curing balm (similar to bag balm) in Oregon back around the turn of the last century and the recipe is still in the family. I have aunts that swear by it.

These days it just seems like an online tsunami of deliberate and malicious misinformation. And most people just don't have the tools and expertise to filter it. I sometimes get taken in by misinformation about topics that I'm actually somewhat expert in.

Note: I'm agreeing with you in general. I don't know anything about this specific speaker.

What if everyone who protested in mass in 2020, would have written letters to their civil leaders, stood outside a state building with a sign, used a bullhorn, used social media, etc. all across America? And rather than attack the people they don't like, what if they would have addressed principles that should be followed?

I'm guessing that the net effect/results would have been more positive to-date.
IF MEDIA WAS FAIR ..
I believe the vast majority would be as you describe.

Media features the tiny minority, deliberately painting the picture they choose.

If reports were in perspective, the violence would barely be mentioned.

Readers must be responsible, not allow themselves to be led around by the nose by BIASED media.

“gov by media, for media,” should be soundly rejected.

Nick Sandmann is an example.
ONE teen, not violent or destructive, out of tens of thousands, gets ALL airtime.

Beware biased media. They are out of control.

Ernie,
i’m a little confused. you first posted this on Page 2. (i thought i replied there, but i do not find my reply, it may have been removed?) i’m not at all sure. if so, i do not object. i just don’t remember. please excuse if this repeats. i’ll try not to.

i’m glad you reposted. it’s worth it. :)

In my view, your overall message is what the vast majority do.
Media should be recognized for ignoring the vast majority. Media seeks, magnifies, exploits, tiny minorities of their choosing. For their purposes. Peace is not a goal of media. Peace does not sell.
Circus freaks sell.

i’m sorry to say it, but, it’s incumbent on individuals/the people to decipher and choose.
to refuse to buy. this equates to personal responsibility. it’s not easy. it is better.

Wade takes it even further. i do not object. he may have it right.

but for those who want to make a public display, i believe MARCH FOR LIFE is the leading example of how peaceful marches can be achieved. every year, these are LARGE gatherings, no destruction or violence. international, too.

Notice:
media ignores MFL. while frustrating on one level, i believe this is crucial to MFL’s message.
if media was present, they would be there for trouble. the march would be damaged.

the one year media cherry-picked ONE MFL teen for their circus (the teen was not aggressive, not destructive, not violent, he offered a nervous teen smile) - media blew up this “offense” for THEIR agenda, which had NOTHING to do with MFL.

tens of thousands (?) at MFL were completely ignored. as media went for “the teen’s jugular.”

media has NOT stopped doing this.
how can “the people” best learn to recognize+reject media - which would quickly force media to do their “real jobs” - reporting balanced news???

consumers must demand better. as long as there are profits, there will be no improvement.
it’s not even complicated. it’s inconvenient. thinking is inconvenient.

i agree with your overall message, the spirit of your message. i believe the great majority, Christian and other, agrees, too. the next step is to recognize deliberate distortion by media and reject it!

it’s no different than rejecting any inferior PRODUCT.
sellers must provide decent quality, or go out of business. what is labeled “news” has become a manufactured crafted product. this is no longer news, it’s distortion.

in the world, existing Truth in Advertising laws should forbid use of a label for a product that does not meet the definition.

I’m so very sorry to say.
When a lot of us line the street standing silently with signs against abortion, provided by the local Catholic church, we are primarily asking for hearts to change, not control of law. When our peace vigil has a sign "Pray for Peace" we are not looking for control of law or the public treasury.

 You may be correct about some "of today’s organized protesters" but not the vast majority that I have come in contact with. The goals are peace and justice.
i probably addressed this in my response to Ernie. ^^
you cause me to think of “1 more thing.”

the minority politically organized+politically motivated are very likely COORDINATING with media to be assured of DOMINATING air space. they are all about getting the most bang for their buck, free media coverage is more valuable than any paid advertising that exists.

consumers need to become more sophisticated and demand better.

It was not removed, merely moved to Politics Bunny Trails. I've now re-moved it to non-Politics Bunny Trails. While whining about "The Media" is not politics per se, "The Media" treats protesting as political subject matter, so it's only one step removed. Not entirely out of bounds, but on thinner ice than Dirk Willems. Continued discussion of the subject is not likely to be profitable.
