Coronavirus Outbreak
Re: Coronavirus Outbreak
Robert, the survival rate for being conceived in this country is quite high, likely in the high 90s, but we still mourn those who are aborted.

Yep, and I mourn those who die from Covid, heart disease, diabetes, automobile accidents and the flu. I just do not advocate for shutting down the economy because of it.barnhart wrote:Robert, the survival rate for being conceived in this country is quite high, likely in the high 90s, but we still mourn those who are aborted.
If people starve, they will die less from obesity. This is true, but it doesn't mean it is a better way to die.
I see a much bigger threat to people from lockdowns then from Covid. I am not saying Covid is not a threat. It is. It just has to be handled better than it is now. I still say the national and state level strategies are wrong. Why protect the invulnerable? Yes, everyone wearing seat belts does lessen deaths. Yes it is a good policy. Yes, it does infringe on my right to be comfortable. There are real studies that prove they do work. If masks are doing the same, then they are a legitimate requirement. If they really worked, then why can't we just wear masks and go about normal activity? Why do we have to distance AND wear masks AND stay at home? If these measures were really working as they say, we would see a large reduction in cases. We are not. We are seeing a reduction in deaths. This is because treatment is getting better and nursing homes are being better managed.

One thing that is a certainty: we are all 100% terminal.
With that in mind, it seems to me that our mission to bring Christ's teaching to as many as we can would be paramount.

COVID-19 is deepening the hunger crisis in the world’s hunger hotspots and creating new epicentres of hunger across the globe. By the end of the year 12,000 people per day could die from hunger linked to COVID-19, potentially more than will die from the disease itself.
The pandemic is the final straw for millions of people already struggling with the impacts of conflict, climate change, inequality and a broken food system that has impoverished millions of food producers and workers. Meanwhile, those at the top are continuing to make a profit: eight of the biggest food and drink companies paid out over $18 billion to shareholders since January even as the pandemic was spreading across the globe - ten times more than has been requested in the UN COVID-19 appeal to stop people going hungry.

While ordinary Americans, even those out of work due to the pandemic, are living like kings relative to these people.Robert wrote:https://www.oxfam.org/en/research/hunge ... ngry-world

Mental health is becoming a major crises. Some people are not handling the lack of human touch and being around people very well. Suicide rates are elevated. There’s been more suicides in our plain circles this year then I can remember in my lifetime.
Underprivileged children are not doing well with virtual classroom learning. It’s not working. You need a well run home to have a homeschool work.
I wonder if our children will talk about the unnecessary shutdown.

I get upset when I think of our elderly isolated in nursing homes. I could tell you stories but I think we all know of cases that are so heartbreaking.

Well handled? Spare me.Robert wrote:It is impossible to protect everyone from everything. It is impossible to have a functioning society if you protect everyone from everything.Judas Maccabeus wrote:It is impossible to protect all vulnerable populations and still have a functioning society.
There has to be a balance. How will the out of work poor feed their families? The rich like you can manage. Those of us who are not so rich have to find ways to work so we can feed our families.

Does not look failed to me. Looks like they have it well handled.
For about 10 million people, Sweden has had 5883 deaths
The other three continental nordic states (Finland, Norway, Denmark) have an aggregate population of almost 17 million, they have had a total of 1284 deaths between them. So Sweden has had 7.32X as many deaths per capita than demographically similar bordering states.
You call that a success? If you do, I can help you apply for a Bedlam badge.
