Nope, just an act of Congress. And enlarging the court is an act of congress.
Then they’ll have 4 seats to flip, in addition to the others. Game over.
Yes, an act of Congress is more than just the Senate. Both legislative bodies need to pass it. So I was right.
Again, if they do take the Senate and do this, there will be a massive revolt in the midterms two years later. Independents do not want either of these things done and will vote with Republicans to remove many who do it. Short term win for a long term loss.
Not after they make all of the dreamers citizens, which you could grant immediately. Pass a voting right acts that eliminate state exclusions to voting for any reason except current incarceration. Overturn Citizens United by passing a law that the newly packed court will approve. Make it easy to register and vote. All of these things can be done with by law. Face it, a demographic tsunami is just outside of the harbor. Ayn Rand is headed for the dustbin of history. And you can thank ole Mitch for this.

Republicans are barely clinging to power in Texas through a combination of voter suppression, gerrymandering, and apathy. But most of the growth in the state is in the urban areas and via immigration. Flip Texas and the Republican Party as it exists now will never win another presidential election and have great difficulty ever retaking the House.
That said, nothing is ever forever. Politics always rebalances itself and I would expect a much different Republican party from the party of Trump to emerge and bring back balance. But it will have to be one with wide multicultural and secular appeal, not the mostly white evangelical party that exists today.

By so clearly making masks a campaign issue, Biden is making this election at least partially a referendum on wearing masks. It will be quite interesting to see whether the exhaustion with wearing masks that I'm seeing everywhere translates into votes for Trump. Essentially Biden is saying that voting for him is going to mean national mask mandates or at least guidance. I guess we'll find out.

We don't have to guess. There is polling. I'd say that Biden is on pretty solid ground, especially with the recent news that Trump has transformed the White House into a Covid Hot Spot.
The poll finds that large majorities of Americans support mandates requiring people to wear face coverings, including majorities of Republicans. Fully 87% of Americans approve of stores requiring customers to wear masks, and large majorities approve of government mandates: 80% approve of their local government requiring everyone in their community to wear a mask when in public, 80% approve of their state government having a mask requirement, and 78% approve of the federal government having a mask requirement. Sizable majorities of Republicans approve of stores requiring customers to wear masks (76%) and approve of their local government (63%), state government (63%), and the federal government (62%) requiring people to wear masks. Democrats and Independents overwhelmingly endorse these requirements.

I seriously do not understand the rampant fear. Yes Covid is serious, but mostly to elderly. The death rate of Covid is less then the flu to all ages except over 65.
This means protect the vulnerable but allow the rest to get asymptomatic cases and become immunity for those at risk. I really think our national plan is totally wrong.

I think I am funnier than I really am.

What people say and what people actually do can be different things. This site has a mask use map showing the percentage of masking by state, and there's nothing above 60%. Maybe there's a selection bias in the people who respond to polls like this.
There are high density, industrialized countries with strategies that seem to be working. My friend is spending the next year or two in Taiwan, both to spend time with his elderly parents and to send his special needs child to a working school system free of COVID.

I question the data for my home state, and I do not understand how they got that data. Indoors, when you cannot distance from unrelated people, like retail, I see near 100% compliance in Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Harford county and Howard County. In western maryland, it may be another matter, BUT in it's high population urban core, the compliance seems to be good.
One friend told me a story. In their municipality a restaurant MUST enforce the mask rule, or face a 1000$ fine. He will gladly serve maskless customers....if they leave a 1000$ cash deposit, in case an inspector shows up. He has had no takers.

I am just showing what would be the result if the democrats followed the "Mitch" rules. My suspicion is the republican party will face utter defeat, and reinvent itself in the mold of Nelson Rockefeller, Gerald Ford, and George Romney. Did you know that "deep blue" Maryland had several members of the house (Bentley and Morella), a senator (Mathias) and a man who served as both mayor of Baltimore and Governor (Me Kelden). All republicans, all immensely popular, all reelected as much as they constitutionally could be. Hogan is somewhat in that mold.

No mask, no cash no service.

How does one eat in a restaurant with a mask on?
Take it off only when you are actually eating. For most of us this is no problem.
