That would be a sight. How could you keep the field sterile?

Well... I was trained as a surgical tech so I think I could manage some how.
Minor surgeries are not always "sterile" anyway and certainly are not treated the same as an open belly surgery...
I was in the Navy and I'm sure you've at least heard that Corpsmen have performed appendectomies on subs. I could do that. I've seen enough and have the techniques already... It wouldn't be very well done but I could do it with a moderate level of risk provided it remained intact. Now surgical suite... not a chance.
I'm referring to mole removals and toe nails. Maybe at the extreme... vasectomies which I am very very familiar with from working in Urology. I've done more suturing then most nurses have ever done as the doc would have me close some minor and major surgical incisions. That being said, I much prefer staples to sutures for the skin.
Specifically I would do my own toe nail. I'm tired of the doc botching it by not doing a 4 point block and feeling like a tortured person and he messed up killing the root (which I most likely would not do better at) I need a podiatrist.
When I wasn't scrubbed in to the surgery myself I was playing circulator so the nurse could be lazy. In other words, we did everything that we weren't supposed to do but I still can place a cath much better then any non-urological nurse.
This one isn’t surgery. After I burst a blood blister in a very sensitive area, and it wouldn’t quit bleeding profusely, I fashioned a homemade mask out of cardboard and used canned air upside down to freeze the burst blood blister. Very effective. Worked like a charm. I froze a couple more as a preventative measure.

(I did have help because of the location.)

Well, unlike others, you actually have training and experience. I would put you in a different category than ragpicker. Just as long as you know your limits. I know mine.

And you do what if things go wrong? I have been around the block enough times to have seen virtually every complication occur.

I’m not advocating self doctoring. I am saying, if you relinquish your allegiance to the big daddy government, the world starts looking a lot different. There have been many thousands of people in the USA itself that have successfully self-doctored. The horror at it seems bizarre to me unless one is personally financially invested in the highly regulated by the government model. Even then, I’ve been fortunate to have doctors that were supportive of my choices and even gave guidance. I was initially taught about using human drugs labeled for animals by a doctor who spent half his time at his practice in the USA and half in the back country of Australia. So maybe it’s a mindset of preferring the feeling of safety under control rather than valuing freedom more than it’s about being financially invested. I dunno. Thinking out loud here.

And far more that have failed. We see it all the time. The tough part is not the treatment, it is making a correct diagnosis. Hope you are better than drs google and Wikipedia.

Things go wrong? You mean like the hospital and pharmacist that prescribed and administered a lethal dose of medication to my friend’s son, killing him? Thankfully for them, my friend didn’t believe in lawsuits. The hospital quickly and eagerly arranged that all medical bills would be zero’d out. They were scrambling.

I could go on and on.

I’m not anti-medical world. I’m extremely grateful for them. But neither do I place them on a pedestal and bow down to them.

Let freedom ring!

Let’s start pulling up some statistics about how many people get sick or die because of mistakes by the medical world, shall we?

Let’s start with an anecdote about my young friend who was KILLED by an overdose administered in a hospital.

But anecdotes don’t prove anything. Let’s look at some statistics. You have them handy?

Man, I don’t understand your “bowing down” to government regulation and the doctors are gods mentality. That’s just do foreign to me. I’m fine if you choose that path. Just let me choose mine too.

Ha! You’re far more perturbed over it than the doctor, nurse, and pharmacist at the hospital were.

It’s fascinating to see you get your dander up because someone dared go outside the normal regulated channels and then compare it to what I experienced in the ER over the same issue.

I had no idea subs had appendices.

It's the underwater pressure; it'll blow your appendix gasket in a heartbeat if you aren't careful.

Well... I'd have to talk to my dad to be sure but they've got a lot of things.

He was ate by the sub for 6 months at a time ya know.

As for if something went wrong... Well lets just say I'd do the same thing the surgeons did when they screwed up and cut the splenic artery and the bowel artery instead of the kidney's. Or the same thing the surgeon did who cut off the wrong leg. Or the same thing the nurse did when he couldn't place a simple cath. Need I go on? My father self doctored and treated us, the time he cut his leg open with the ax, he knew when to have mom take him to the doctor.

Back when I had pneumonia last fall (wasn't covid) the doctor didn't follow the correct diagnosis standard of getting a chest x-ray... Needless to say, I still recovered and we spent like 6 bucks compared to 200+ for the x-ray to confirm something the doctor already knew.
