Usual absurdity of arrogance. Thank Godyou came along who is SO smart, and folks like Augustine, Aquinas, and John Paul II Were such simpletons they cannot understand simple bible verses.

I do not object to folks not accepting their teachings but to think you refute them with your simplistic arguments. Pathetic.

Jay, everyone does this. There isn't any reason to be sarcastic over it. We all have our beliefs and from different points of view, complex or simple arguments. If you want people to consider what you say, perhaps some humility or respect would help? This is a Mennonite forum, do you really expect us to agree with Catholic or Orthodox dogma wholesale?

Last night you said you would ignore him. That didn't last long, did it?

No, the nights keep getting worse for a little more than two weeks, then they get better.

I thought this thread was going to discuss the first Christians, ancient Rome and the persecutions. Instead it's a thinly veiled soapbox on modern politics. Can this be moved to the politics section?

Yep it would be a good project. We could probably start with the metaphors and similes. They’re used to make a comparison instead of making a mandate. Descriptions of people and places probably would be next. But then if this project ever appeared how would it stop short of telling everybody what they have to do instead of what God calls the individual to do?
"We" would have to first agree on some rather basic things, which you as a Freewill Baptist and myself as a Mennonite are going to be unable to do. For example, I think the Sermon on the Mount teaches that as Christians, we can't kill people, even in justified self defence; whereas Freewill Baptists interpret the Sermon on the Mount very differently.
