Ha. It looks like the avatars went the way of all the earth in the days when the earth, i mean the forum, was divided between those who got the boot and those who did not.ken_sylvania wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2024 2:06 pmI hadn't realized before that Mike has his own avatar on this board. Try hard not to offend. Try harder not to be offended.
I think I am funnier than I really am.

Re: Learning to Read the Bible as a Seeker
Once I handed someone a tract titled, “Love your enemies!” He shook his head and handed it back, and said “I hate my enemies!”
I appreciated his candor.

Re: Learning to Read the Bible as a Seeker
i keep inviting my neighbor but she doesn't seem to want to leave her house, however, whenever I did her son in his 50's who lives at home will bring up a pie she has baked, or more recently, a big plate of christmas cookies. I tried to keep it "low key" by just having a simple outdoor bbq. my next idea is to talk to her son and see if we can just bring some burgers etc over and grill it at their place.

Re: What is the Anabaptist approach to whiners?
So instead of whining, how can we do better at making MN a better place for people to feel safe and to talk about what is meaningful in our everyday lives as Christians trying to live out the Kingdom of God?JohnL wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 9:53 amI agree. It can become a habit for people who just want to interact and don’t know how. It’s like they’re stuck in teen mode. I think their social gear shift doesn’t work.Neto wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 8:38 am Perhaps some 'whining' is (like constant 'conspiracy theorizing') really just a cry for social interaction, a sort of ramped up 'small talk'.
(Something someone already said above suggested this thought to me. So maybe offering interaction on a different topic is the best response in both cases.)
If we let the algorithms determine what we discuss and how we discuss it, the tail is wagging the dog. If we really believe in taking a Kingdom of God perspective, what does that look like? What topics should we be discussing and how? If we're sick of taking sides on whatever Trump said most recently, what should we do instead?

1. Are we discussing the topic? Good.
2. Are we going around and around in a fight? Let's stop doing that.
3. Is there some serious wrongdoing or relational injury? Let's address that, probably not in public and certainly not for show.

If I go away for a few weeks, I come back, and it's still largely Trump. If that's a major area of conversation, I think it's important to try to ask how Christians should approach that. Because sometimes Trump seems to be treated as the real dividing line between good and evil, and I think it's important to question that, and question some of the claims that we are being fed to see what is true.
If Christianity is the more important alternative to political messaging, what is our commentary on what the politicians are feeding us?

OK, sounds good. Let's go ahead and question the claim.Bootstrap wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 10:30 amBecause sometimes Trump seems to be treated as the real dividing line between good and evil, and I think it's important to question that, and question some of the claims that we are being fed to see what is true.

Q: Is it true that sometimes Trump is being treated as the real dividing line between good and evil?
A: Not on MennoNet, at least not in the sense that anyone acts as if everything Trump does is good, and anything opposed to him is evil.

If you stop talking about Trump, that's one less person talking about Trump on MN. If that's what you really want, lead the way and don't participate in those threads.Bootstrap wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 10:30 amIf I go away for a few weeks, I come back, and it's still largely Trump. Why is it important to commentate on what politicians are feeding us. If one is serious about Christianity being more important than political messaging, I think it will be evident by what is and isn't posted on MN.

Who's the first person in this thread to mention Trump? Why did this thread need to join the already yuge number of threads discussing him? Will it get moved to Politics?
