Just being silly but I do find it interesting how one of the first responses to recognizing right from wrong was for Adam and Eve to cover up their nakedness.
It seems that with their increased knowledge came shame at being naked.

I personally think that our teaching about being properly clothed could stand a bit more emphasis on what the Bible says about the shame of undress/nudity, in place of some of the focus on modesty and not being a sexual temptation to other people. I think we ought to be ashamed to be naked, something that God reinforced when he gave Adam and Eve coats of skin to wear. We certainly are not any less sinful than Adam - ought we not to be just as ashamed of our nakedness?

Unfortunately John H Yoder had an unfinished project arguing something very nearly like this. Upon which he based is abuses.

Arguing something like what? The sinless perfection bit?

Your comment could be taken two different ways....

Yoder was developing a crazy argument to justify his sexual issues. Along the lines of what I understood your point to be. Not that you were supporting it.

God's response was "Who told you that you were naked?" I suspect some being, not God, told them.

Adam and Eve were just with each other when they were given the coats of skins. Should spouses be ashamed to be naked together?

We ought to be ashamed to be naked when and where it is inappropriate. It isn't always. Isaiah wasn't ashamed when he went naked publicly for three years at God's command. Jesus wasn't ashamed on the cross. Peter wasn't ashamed while fishing. Christians being baptized weren't ashamed the first several centuries. Nor were they ashamed at the public baths.

In our actions, you may be right that we aren't less sinful than Adam (although that's debatable). In reality, in God's eyes, we have been cleansed of all our sins through Jesus Christ.

Don't forget the man who had been possessed by demons for so long, who wore no clothes and lived among the tombs. I expect that many female celebrities may be virtually unclothed for the same reason--demons.

I suspect occasions of being nude in public had much to do with the customs of that time and place. A public bath where people were in the nude would not be acceptable in our culture.

There are arguments supporting and rejecting that Jesus was nude on the cross. Some say this was the common way that Romans shamed and crucified people by nudity whereas others say the Jews had some influence to alter that practise for Jesus.

The early Christian water baptisms are also believed to have occurred in the nude. Hard to imagine that on the day of Pentecost that 3,000 people stripped nude and were baptised. Some believe nude immersion was the Biblical way to demonstrate putting off of the old life and putting on the new. Of the dying and being buried (immersion) and rising to new life in Christ.

I haven't studied these nudity understandings to draw a conclusion. But if we do look at customs back in the early church days as being a culture and setting thing, then I think other things like foot washing and the roles women can play in the church may also need consideration.

Back to the artistic thing, most paintings I see picturing hell has people nude. I don't recall ever seeing nude pictures of those in heaven. Mostly in robes. Perhaps as Kingdom representatives we should be wearing robes today ? :?

God's response was actually "Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree?"
It seems the knowledge and shame of their nakedness was a part of the knowledge gained when they ate of the tree.

They were with God as well.

I would have expected that Isaiah was ashamed to go naked, but did it anyway as commanded. I don't see why Jesus wouldn't have found it shameful to be stripped naked and hung on a cross. It's not like he didn't have natural human emotions. We really don't have any way of knowing whether Peter was buck naked or just not wearing his outer garments when he was fishing.
