A year after left-wing news TRASHED theory that COVID originated from a Wuhan lab when Trump supported the suggestion - outlets now throw their SUPPORT behind the idea.

Josh wrote: ↑Tue May 25, 2021 12:54 pm One of the challenges with COVID-19 is the mainstream narrative is "trust the experts" - except when the experts don't agree with the mainstream narrative.

For example, in Scientific American last month,
Even Nobel laurates in medicine have been culpable; Luc Montagnier’s statement that COVID was likely manufactured earned him both the enthusiastic embrace of conspiracy theorists and the enmity of scientific peers who refuted the conjecture as utterly false.
Luc Montagnier is definitely an expert in the field of viruses, and specifically a particular type of RNA virus.

And the narrative has changed since April! Now it is no longer "fringe" to consider that COVID may have had non-natural origins, with even Dr Fauci saying that's a possibility.

At issue here is not scientific consensus, believing in science, or not believing in science. It is being told to uncritically believe whatever a certain narrative is, which is decided by an unaccountable group of people, under the threat of ostracism if you don't rapidly change what you believe to go with this new "consensus". The actual truth (and science) get lost in the process.

The ultimate victim will be science itself. We have a future to look forward to of lots of conspiracy theories, pseudoscience, quack cures, and regression against the gains made in the 20th century on the forefront of medicine.
Luc Montagnier has been a crank and peddling fringe ideas for over a decade. Such as the idea that DNA emits electromagnetic waves. This is from 11 years ago: https://science.sciencemag.org/content/330/6012/1732

The idea that Covid escaped from a lab in Wuhan is not the same as the idea that it is a manufactured artificial virus as Montagnier claims.
... Luc is crank?

He discovered the virus HIV, and is an expert on RNA viruses, particularly certain types of them.

He did his HIV work nearly 40 years ago. He was a brilliant scientist when he was younger. He became something of a crank in his old age. He must be pushing 90 now. It happens. Same thing happened with James Watson, one of the discoverers of DNA who became something of a racist crank in his old age too and the scientific community distanced itself from him too. If you don't believe me do some googling.

Only time will tell all the negative effects the Covid pandemic and governmental responses to it will have on the age group that was least vulnerable to the virus.
Based on increased demand for behavioral health services over the past four months, Children's Hospital Colorado is declaring a pediatric mental health state of emergency.

David Brumbaugh, the chief medical officer for the hospital, said it's been unlike anything he's seen in his 20 years of practice.

"Our kids have run out of resilience," Brumbaugh said. "Their tank is empty. That's where we are right now as a system and it's impacting families across our metro area, across our state."

The blind leading the blind.
Not only will there be a long ripple effect, there is no system, there are no professionals prepared to respond.
They will do their best to muddle along.

Just another huge government imposed social engineering EXPERIMENT.
The cost will be high.

The fact that the central motivation behind it was career politician politics to deny a sitting president a second 4year term,
should not be ignored - by anyone.

It should not be forgotten how low they are willing to go to prevail.

I neither agree nor disagree with his conclusions. I don't pay him much attention. But I do know the wider scientific community thinks he is a crank. His recent work is all non-peer reviewed and published without any review in a fringe journal that he happens to own himself. And that no one else has managed to replicate any of his recent work because it is all so poorly documented. He had to move to China to continue his "research" because no one in Europe would fund his work or work with him anymore.

Being unable to replicate his work would make it the same as 99.7% of the rest of oft-cited research right now, given the state of the replication crisis (and the attendant citation crisis); replicating research is no longer necessary to be published, peer-reviewed, or respected. Parroting the right conclusions is.
In other words, the "wider scientific community" (i.e. the ones currently controlling the mainstream consensus) kicked him out, so we can safely ignore whatever his views are.
Of course his recent work is all non-peer reviewed, because he's been banned from the respectable establishment for the crime of challenging them.
He had to move to China to continue his "research" because no one in Europe would fund his work or work with him anymore.
Sort of like what Dr Fauci did with funding for his obsession with gain-of-function research on coronaviruses?

https://dailycaller.com/2021/05/25/mart ... -immunity/
A professor at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine said Tuesday that almost “half the country” has natural immunity from COVID-19 due to prior infection.

Dr. Marty Makary appeared on “The Vince Coglianese Show” Tuesday, where he called dismissal of natural immunity “one of the biggest failures of our current medical leadership.”

Makary lamented the lack of guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for those who were infected but have recovered from the disease.

He also decried the demonization of people with natural immunity for refusing to get vaccinated, which Makary said is a reasonable decision, because “natural immunity works.”
Makary, however, disputed claims that natural immunity is inferior to that acquired through vaccination, saying that both are “probably life-long” and that no boosters will be needed.

I think Dr. Makary makes a good point here - there is a tendency for medical people to lean too heavily on medicine when natural responses like the body's immune system are expertly designed for efficency.

I do think, however, that his last statement about no boosters needed may be premature.
